@Davinyoko - No, I don't care about it. I don't watch the show, but I don't see the need to criticize kids for what they find to be entertaining. Kids are in school for at least seven hours a day and then after sports or other extracurricular activities they should have rules that they not be out "making their lives interesting." They should be home. Most parents are working and get home exhausted from their 10 -12 hour work days not to mention the commute so they can't entertain their kids every night. Better to have an escape like TV than out on the street unsupervised. This story doesn't pertain to you. It's not about what's better for their lives. It's for the people who are interested in the TV show "Glee." Go tell your friends how cool you are that you don't watch it.

@Davinyoko - I have never understood people's obsession with commenting on things they don't care about. If you're not interested in something keep scrolling down. Your "cool factor" of not caring about this stuff drops substantially when you make comments that don't pertain to you. People and especially kids in this case use entertainment and celebrities to escape from the boredom and routine of every day life. RIP Corey Monteith.

@Virtuoso... Thanks! OK... I can see a little that he's trying to make that connection, but not the entire population of seniors. They've gotta be petty thieves in most cases.

So is he saying they are shoplifting for attention and not because they don't have money to purchase items? Is there logic in this statement?

I love it when "cool" people like It"s Me jump into conversations that has nothing to do with them. If it's not relevant to you why waste your time? If everyone stops using Facebook you won't be "cool" anymore. This is useful information for people to be aware of. Thanks JT.

Posted in: Summers in Japan becoming intolerable See in context

"... Becoming Intolerable???" My 20 summers in Japan have always been miserable and @theResident, where in Japan do you live? I live in Tokyo and there is no measurable about of snow or cold temperatures to be considered winter. There's no such thing as frostbite in Kanto and people could never die from being exposed to a Tokyo "winter" and if there was snow on the ground that lasted past noon after the one or MAYBE two days of flurries that happen to drop in January I might consider it real snow, but the Kanto region does not have a "defined" winter. People from Hokkaido would laugh and walk around in T-shirts in a Kanto area "winter." I've never worn a coat in a Tokyo "winter." As for summer, even in the shade you can't hide from the Tokyo humidity. The only thing that makes summers in Tokyo bearable are the women in short skirts, shorts and trips to the beach to see more women in bikinis.

@1 Aussie - I've lived and worked in Japan for 20 years and have permanent residency. I love living here, but if we are encouraged to praise the country, we also have the responsibility to point out the problems as well. No country is perfect. I have every right to joke and criticize as much as any Japanese person. It is not anti-Japan nor anti-Japanese to point out problems with the system in which we live.

I'd bet a month of my salary that the police did not even think of tracking down the cell phone the mugger stole.

The "problems" are that the taxi companies line the pockets of politicians to make sure it doesn't happen.

Sagan was obviously wrong in what he did, but why can we not acknowledge the physical beauty of either gender. That is something I'll never understand.

My first two years in Japan I thought I had a bad cold because I never had hayfever before. I was miserable! Claritin totally works for me and I have family send enough for me to last through June. Does anyone know what Claritin is called by doctors in Japan?

My brother and I had our picture taken with the original Batmobile when I was about 7 or 8. We also had our picture taken with Adam West (the 60s TV Batman) and autographed. Wish I could find it.

I haven't tried for awhile, but can people who live overseas download from Amazon.com? I guess I can check now, but we couldn't before. Does anyone know if they will do the same for movies? I can buy and rent movies from iTunes because of my U.S. credit card, but couldn't do that with Amazon.com last time I checked.

Most baseball players' "prime" is between 27 - 29. If Fukudome, Japanese players and the MLB would stand up to the JPB and stop the illegal practice of telling them they can't demonstrate their skills until AFTER nine years maybe then we could see players from Japan really shine in Major League Baseball.

Both of you are right. The Masters are live on TV in Japan and by having him at The Masters they will bring in viewers who normally don't watch golf. He's all that Japan has right now. He gets by on his youth and charm and that is all.

LFRAgain - There's no distinction between consensual sex between minors and consensual sex for 13 and older with adults. The law doesn't say you can consent to sex if your 13 only if it's with someone 19 and younger.

Well when politicians use real words that are suppose to state promises and goals, of course you're not going to like it. Better to go back to pre 2009 and just lie and be vague to the public because then there wouldn't be a word that automatically shows you're untrustworthy.

Yep! @matthew and @alliswellinjapan - This is a win-win for Oshima and Miike. Oshima fans will sympathize with Oshima believing she is "pure" and can't handle such movies and Miike fans and possible Miike fans will wonder what was so bad about the killing that more people will go see it.

I didn't know that Wi-Fi can identify phones/devices that are from other countries. @jojo... - For the same reason Japan has fallen 3 years behind the mobile market compared to other countries. They keep trying to find ways to control everything which forces them to reduce resources into development into other areas. They focused on MD and Apple beat them to digital. They focused on how to control the net and other countries are raking in advertising money on free Wi-Fi almost everywhere.
