There seems to have been several warning signs here that were ignored.

Social services seems to be hiding behind administration rather than actually getting out there and meeting or interviewing people. Even if they did meet him, would they have been able to do anything?

I am wondering how many more cases are out there of people who don’t have any friends, support structure or the tools to deal with the modern world. Not all of them will crack and commit violent acts of course, but it’s really a sad reflection on society.

How the hell did it get like this and is this the future?

Wouldn’t some type of taser gun have helped prevent killing him? Then again the guy seemed to have a death wish so fair enough...

What the hell is going through people’s minds these days and how many more are hiding out there?

Posted in: Japan to buy 105 F-35 U.S. stealth warplanes: Trump See in context

And there you have it... last time it was sales of some highly expensive defense system and this time around it’s 105 new planes. All to keep Donald happy and play to his whims.

WTF!!! If Japan really needs these planes then they should be developed and built in Japan, or at least partly so. What’s the point of importing your defense from a different country and using off the shelf systems?. Where is Japan’s strategic advantage here?

Abe is continuing to use Japan’s tax income like his own personal stash and in the meantime there are so many problems domestically that he is totally ignoring.

I am really hoping that Japan will eventually have strong and empathetic leaders, but it won’t happen soon. Maybe my kids will see it...

Giving a kid a sandwich for bento is lazy and embarrassing for the kid.

is there really any discussion needed about this?

For the posters espousing the system, if it was you in his place how would you really feel?

I would probably have quit while I was ahead and had gotten away with the first $100million (or whatever it was)...allegedly.

Then again, it’s probably hard to stop at any number.

Give the system a chance. He is no choir boy and as I said before, the truth will come out.

Slightly old but applicable. Yes a very stupid thing to do in hindsight.

Tosa dogs are fighting dogs. There is obviously a lot more to this story than this article mentions.

Posted in: Trump pledges support for return of Japanese abducted by N Korea See in context

Abe is eager to resolve the issue during his time in office.

hmm... so what exactly has he done about it? Is Japan really so helpless that it needs to suck up to Trump to handle this?

I really wish that Japan will wake up and kick these old useless bureaucrats out when the election happens, but I think we all know that’s not going to happen.

Give it a rest and let’s move on. The Japanese justice system may not be the fairest in the world at all times but the truth will come out and Carlos will very likely be put away for several years. Bring on the dislikes...

Let’s just get this charade over with as quickly and painlessly as possible and hope that nothing too disastrous happens in the next few days.

As much as I cannot stand Trump nor his followers, I do think it’s important that Japan show due respect for the office (rather than the person).

Shocking that Abe Shinzo has done nothing about this and the family needs to rely on a person such as Trump to do something. 41 years is a long time. Indeed - shame on Japan politicians!

Very sad that an old person had to resort to this. Very bad reflection on a society that doesn’t take care of the elderly
