Posted in: 1st batch of 400,000 doses of Pfizer COVID vaccine arrive in Japan See in context

Why are they debating it if it’s a forgone conclusion that it will be approved on Sunday?

The US has already vaccinated about 50 million people...a little under half the entire population of Japan.

To say the Japanese Govt response is slow is an understatement.

Easily solved.

Let Tokyo have the 2024 Olympics and shift Paris and LA by 4 years.

This ensures the financial burden isn’t only on Tokyo and gives the world a chance to recover from COVID.

FCCJ is a joke that serves little value. Always quick to take up anything that goes against the system - numerous examples over the years (Ghosn, etc) and now they resort to this to try to be in the spotlight. I have zero time for them.

Posted in: Abe looks to extend state of emergency through May 31 See in context

Typical cowardly Abe and politicians in general leaking information in order to remove the shock of the news on people.

This so called state of emergency was grossly ineffective as it didn’t have any real power and people still went out and congregated. Social distancing has to be all or nothing. Reducing interaction simply slows things down, not eliminating the virus. All they are doing is stalling in order for a vaccine to be developed rather than cutting this out.

In other words, It has been a waste if time.

It’s sad that after 30 years in Japan he still doesn’t understand the way of doing things here.

He could have handled it better and had the discussions within the company rather than bringing to the Foreign Press.

I don’t know the whole story, and do feel a bit sorry for him, but I do know that you get nowhere by trying to embarrass a company in public.

Similar to Ghosn... He’s not a hero or a martyr in my book, just a slightly arrogant foreigner trying to beat the system. A true case of ‘I fought the law and the law won’

Posted in: Ruling party seeks ¥100 trillion stimulus to battle coronavirus See in context

Yet again Japanese Govt is throwing money at a situation in order to try to solve a problem. The root cause is a nasty ruthless virus that doesn’t care about money and it’s a medical and social issue as well. It’s not just about money... that helps but will solve nothing. You need to do your part to stop this thing spreading..

Posted in: Koike calls for fewer outings; says state of emergency up to PM See in context

Abe - it’s not about importing the virus anymore. The virus is here and you need to act now. Now. Test more people. Stop hiding the facts. Nobody cares about the Olympics anymore so get over it. It’s not all about money and helping your privileged friends... it’s about the public and their health & safely. Be honest with the public. Stop your cronyism and don’t defend your wife when she does stupid things. Declare the state of emergency that everyone knows it is anyway. Do something about this before many thousand die.

Jeez. Of course none of this will happen.

Posted in: Tokyo Olympics rescheduled for July 23-Aug 8 in 2021 See in context

None of them has the right to be complaining about the Japanese summer and how hot it gets for the athletes or spectators. They had the perfect chance of doing something about it and did nothing. Unbelievable, but at the moment I don’t really care about it.

If they do not move it to earlier in the year when it’s a bit cooler then they are really insane and giving up this great opportunity. How quickly everyone forgets how damn hot it gets in summer.

Have they announced how many tests are taking place? 63 positives out of how many tests? After Fukushima most of the world has zero trust or confidence in the numbers they tell us.

Posted in: Coronavirus testing to be covered by national health insurance See in context

It’s estimated that actual rate in Japan is 10 times more than that officially stated...mainly because they did not let people get tested. This new development should be interesting

Govt is incompetent and not capable of dealing with any emergency or crisis. Those of us living in Japan are all aware of this

Posted in: Woman arrested for carrying 2 knives says she was planning to stab parents See in context

Police said the parents told them that their daughter is mentally unstable.

The story hints that she also caused the fire so there must be a reason why she hated her parents so much. Yes, she may have been mentally unstable as her parents say, or her parents may have been.

As with most articles here, there is almost zero context or background analysis.. it’s just a few basic facts given and there is a lot more to it.

Since she has a husband and child, why does the article refer to her as being unemployed rather than being a housewife or stay-at-home mom?

They quoted her as saying a coworker gave the kitten to her a week earlier but her family members wouldn’t let her keep it, so she couldn't think how else to get rid of it.

Seriously? My first thought would be to give it back to the coworker with a gomen and deep bow..

How does this whole story make sense?

i am pretty sure a child could find the huge flaws in the logic that Japan government have come up with.

They are either seriously clueless or reckless... I think a bit of both.

Lets just hope the warmer weather starts to kill this thing off...

He advised all foreigners to leave

I don’t see too much focus yet on this statement. Think about what he has just said.

It looks like most people who read English news articles in Japan are sympathetic with Ghosn - baffles me why. The guy was screwing the system for years to amass and keep his fortune. But you don’t want to hear the truth..

Posted in: Ghosn's lawyer just as outraged by Japan's justice system as by escape See in context

I am assuming that by ‘getting a fair trial’, what they are really indicating is getting a trial where Ghosn gets off without any punishment..if so, I think they’d better manage their expectations

Posted in: Ghosn's escape leaves Japan red-faced See in context

We now know how justified his bail conditions were, especially the banning of communication with his wife (who I assume was behind planning all of this).

It is really ridiculous that the goods leaving his house were not thoroughly checked and the company and individuals that arranged it should also be suitably punished.

I would truly love to see both Carlos & wife back in Japan and wearing handcuffs - they are making a mockery of Japan.

He is now a criminal, a liar and a fugitive - the press should not give him any air time.

Posted in: Ghosn's lawyer says he is stunned his client left country See in context

Seems Carlos may have been using his time productively by watching tv dramas of A-team, MacGyver & smugglers... will be interesting to hear how it was done, especially if the rumors about hiding in a musical instrument box are true.

That said, I can’t wait until this criminal is brought to justice. What a selfish lying scum who cares nothing for others he has revealed himself to be. No, I don’t care about what he now has to say - his credibility has been destroyed.

Baffles me that there are still those who defend his actions and will inevitably’-‘ this post. Enjoy...

This is a bit like news about Trump...

Those that support him will continue to do so, despite him breaking the law, lying, leaving a mess for others to clean up and yet still continuing to proclaim innocence. He is now a criminal.

For me, he now lacks any credibility he may once have had.
