@mig4035 considering 99% of all people i know consist of 99% pure evil in the classic sense of the word i dont think the classic interpretation of heaven would be full of ... euh, humans anyway. I thought hell is all about repetition so i think this very place here must be it.

It's not that hard to conceive if even according to science no matter is ever destroyed, only transformed that there's a possibility, IF, there's more to a human body than a set of chemical reactions, that something like energy might be preserved in a transformed state. On the other hand since no one ever came back with proof its not really a certainty and the only certainty one ever has in life is the certainty that death will come one day and it's inevitable so maybe it's best not to bet on an afterlife and treat this one as one chance ... just in case ?

it's a start, i suppose getting humans to test on requires paying them while these animals are probably killed and dumped when the testing is over. Where do i sign? i'm broke enough to try that atm ?

Posted in: Former ASDF general: 'China won't initiate war over Senkakus' See in context

ofcourse they won't, it would turn global opinion against them if they took a first shot in the open. That's a bit of strategic common sense and even if probably not scared the japanese still have the space marines to back them up. No one really wants a fight with the space marines and it should be clear why if you look over the past ... 40 years ? Even if they dont win the place is left behind kinda messy. In my somewhat humble opinion nobody will start an open war over this BUT if it comes to that it will be becaused of some stupid accident with casualties that can be interpreted as the proverbial 'act of war'. If there are really provocative actions than this is the sole purpose : to have the other party lose its cool and take the first open shot. I dont know since i'm not there but i think that's more or less how this thing goes on the higher levels of society and government. I sincerely hope it does not come to that.

@caribjustice this stuff was probably developed as military appliance in the first case as is a lot of new hi-tek always it would be real sweet to see a trained special ops guy workout in these but i wonder if someone able-bodied as you say would do this and is maybe able to jump five times further or higher if it absorbs the impact from the increased distanced as well. If not it could only be suitable for short time use since it would be very destructive on the joints

Posted in: How do you solve a problem like North Korea? See in context

umh, it does sound demeaning to refer to a whole nation as 'a problem'. I also don't think forcing someone with very little to lose is the way to go here. On the other hand, having someone terrorize you is ofcourse not an option either. People in positions of power who are capable and willing to keep it real and dont have their heads up their , uh, pants and too many people licking their feet around them might be required. An apology might be a good start towards those, and i'm sure there are some, who see this mostly as an attempt by the united states to not lose their already overstretched grasp on staying the number one military power in the world. My guess is China isnt really willing to intervene on behalf of either since keeping the u.s. from gaining absolute military intrest is ofcourse also in their own intrest. On the other hand, the nuclear threat of a nation in trouble is very real and any escalation will , due to fallout and what not exceed the borders of where it happened. I think they're in for a long painful process where one step forward is followed by 1.5 or two back so perseverance will be needed as well as very cautious diplomacy so as to not push the ones who are back to the wall while in the mean time not giving too much opportunity to abuse. I don't think this 'situation', like any other major problem has a simple presentable solution. The past would need to let go of the present first, that's for sure.

110 bln yen, that's not peanuts. I think it might be a sound investment since stem cells seem to be able to create previously impossible regenerative capability in the human body in about any part. I'm not a scientist but i think, excluding the money wasted on patent wars whoever comes up with this might have a real moneymaker on their hands. Yea i know, it's about saving lives, but unfortunately everything revolves around money. so while the americans and europeans discuss the morals of it, asia might get first dibs then? again ... the wheel of fortune never stops i just wish they would stop bickering and wasting time on territorial pissings. As a layman outsider with the utmost respect for the differences in the past. I wonder how many folk out there actually wants to go along with that craze

Posted in: What does N Korea's nuclear test reveal? See in context

zero comments hey , touchy subject ... maybe, since North Korea won't stop anyway, and neither the states nor japan will just consider an invasion against an enemy that would dump that same bomb on their troops in their own territory... maybe, since a starving country might act like a starving country, the trick in diplomacy is not to issue more sanctions but to see what can be done about the shortage IF they agree to be a bit more open about everything and come towards the outside world. Maybe, from a layman's point of view asking would make more sensew than pushing. Sometimes it feels as if these international high ranking diplomats are as stuck as anyone here who would be trying to manipulate someone into obedience according to 1932 principles .. when the national socialist party was on the high rise in germany. Maybe, but who are we to speak on matters of state, maybe friendly would work better than threat since someone with nothing to lose but everything to gain might not respond very well to threat at all. I'm ranting again, this message will probably go for being off-topic. Wouldn't be the first, no hard feelings about that.

magnetic lobotomy? Sounds scary, sounds like someone poking around with a huge stick in fine hardware they don't completely understand as well to me. I don't think i'd volunteer for an experiment like that. Who knows what happens while the delicate balance that has evolved over millions of years gets disturbed while disrupting just one point. If this gets finetuned ... then what's next? The anti-crime helmet ? The headband you wear from birth. Excuse me and my big brother fears. It's great science but i think the potential is quite scary as well.

as long as it's paid for with private money from private business and not a statesponsored plan i think it's great. It creates extra jobs and shows somehow business is less greedy by providing these less-functional yet decorative jobs who add to the overall environment. More people get paid. Money gets distributed better in a non state organized communist way. Corporate communism, altruism or tradition? Doesn't matter, I think it's great. Share the wealth a little better like that

Posted in: Sony Pictures exec: 'Zero Dark Thirty' does not advocate torture See in context

since i'm in the habit of saying things that ruffle people's feathers. I think a movie like zero dark thirty is hardly oscar material. That's usually more for tear-jerker movies imo. I can understand the reaction of Sony since in reality it will probably have been a lot worse than anything that would be shown in a movie. Or the movie would simply not appear on big screens. As for the reality of reality. You don't get answers by asking pretty please, not from people who already consider themselves dead. I don't like guantanamo. I don't like the part where the americans think they can just tell the world what to do (even if they can somewhat). But i certainly don't like religious nuts shooting 14 year old girls in the name of whatever. I can't speak about the movie itself but i'm sure it will conveniently forget to mention explicitly it took them more than ten years to get Osama Bin Laden. Which shows how resilient these warriors of their own god are. Dire times, i dont think we've seen all of it yet. I dont think the death of Osama will do more than a dent in morale. It's probably forgotten already except to those who see it as yet another reason for revenge. So, lots of innocent people will probably still die. That's how terror works. Last thing i read al qaeda even refused medical treatment to pakistani people, their own people, as a means of pressure to make americans stop drone attacks. And on the other sides, much restraint will be put on personal liberties in the name of counter-terrorism. Or at least they will try. The sword cuts both sides as usual.

Posted in: Abe accuses China of letting Japanese firms be targeted during isle protests See in context

So, excuse me for double posting here. If there's fighting, then both sides will lose out, waste resources and others will be involved. Meanwhile no one benefits from the resources. So instead of not giving a diplomatic solution leading to shared stakes would be way better for all parties involved. I think that's undeniable. Time is wasted. I dont see how this helps anyone except if the point is to rebuild an economy according to the american model, based on warfare. From my outsider point of view i just see people not budging over things long in the past. But like i said, i live on the other side of the world

Posted in: Abe accuses China of letting Japanese firms be targeted during isle protests See in context

How very, very, typical human behaviour. I live on the other side of the world and i see it's the same everywhere. Where there's opportunity, people would rather fight at the cost of many than to take it, exploit it, use it, both as trade partners, and corner the world economy as the largest. But no ... too much in the past. It's very sad even the allegedly greatest of the earth anywhere are not immune to this. I suppose they're fighting over stuff from when most of them weren't even born. Always the same.

looks pretty sweet but in this other article i read : Other features of the Touch8 system are up to 15.6" coverage area, 500 hours of continuous writing/hovering battery life, and absolute positioning.

The APEN Touch8 will be available Q1 2013 for a retail price of $79.99.

the price is probably not too much but it's definitely not cheap for a silly gadget, but the coverage seems very small, my smallest screen on my desktop is 23 inches so i guess it won't be aimed at desktop users then.

@semperfi from a frontline soldier's perspective dodging bullets and bleeding on order i can understand your opinion but as an american war general or secret service agent (not that i am one ofcourse) i'd say the whole mission in Iraq was succeeded, the region is destabilized, their killing each other and are no longer a threat to the united states. I don't believe in humanitarian motives for wars. So you could say none of them died for nothing. But let me state here (because this is quite the statement ofcourse) that i do not sympathize with war for oil. But i do see what it has achieved. target neutralized, nationally, the question is what will come out of it, will it be the next afghanistan?

what a load of crap. It's the pressure in global society that causes this. As usual any conservative type will jump on occasions like this to push censorship and outdated values ... limiting freedom in the name of safety, at times when people virtually beg for it. I have seen all tarantino movies several times, and way worse than that, i have had access to weapons since i was a kid. I NEVER killed someone, not even those guilty of attacking me directly. It's a load of bull, pointing fingers at anyone but themselves again.

no matter what side wins in Syria, there will be cleansing afterwards, UN observers or not, they're useless as always. If Israel gets involved, it's cold, ruthless efficiency might end the conflict way sooner than any kind of soft-sector hippie could do by just talking and saying stuff like : you can't do that because it's wrong, and all that. You know they type. Solve it much sooner in a short span of hard war, effectively preventing way more slaughter in the end. The thing is, if they're provoked into taking action, will they just go away afterwards ?
