Having a reasonable amount of tax money going to fund world-class athletes can be very beneficial, in that it supplies young people with positive role models. Japanese kids are becoming increasingly fixated on the latest gadgets, and, as a result, are having increased levels of childhood obesity, etc.

Using this logic, America, which funds its athletes very well, should have low levels of childhood obesity. Yet we have the highest rates in the world.

Why are they retiring it? Is it too expensive to run? If so, why is it cheaper to run the same trains on a different line?

So it can't be the electronic system- must be a lack of knowledge with airbag tech !

It's not the electronic system or the airbag technology. Like the article clearly stated, it is bad wiring that caused the problem.

What's even more bizarre is that airbag technology has been perfected for years- why can't the Japanese makers get it right ?

Nothing wrong with the airbags, just the wiring. And it is only Daihatsu, not any other Japanese manufacturer.

For the people who don't understand what a tsunami is: it's not a 10cm "wave".

One other thing to mention is that oftentimes buoys record wave heights and they seem small like 10 or 20 or 30 cm. But these buoys are off the coast, so the waves are not as tall as they will be when they reach the coastline. As the waves approach land, they become significantly taller.

wow are Canada and USA different countries?

They sure are. Canada is the red team that will win silver, and USA is the blue team that will win gold. Finally the championship will be coming back to America, the home of hockey.

The Sea Shepard is doing it's job to protect where there is no protection. Heroes who go about serving the environment are fulfilling a larger calling than those who foul and scorch.

The SS are actually hurting the environment with their criminal actions.

5 million domestic recalls a year signals a serious problem to me.

Perhaps it shows the companies are responsible. They recall cars whenever there is the slightest chance that something could go wrong. Good companies are not afraid to recall products, that way they can make them better.

According to the SS website, the Steve Irwin will be in the Mediterranean to "oppose Bluefin tuna poachers".

What's wrong with poaching tuna? Some people like it grilled, some like it fried, and some like it poached. Why does the SS oppose this cooking method?

Did you see the pics of the holes that were blown through the nets by the bazooka type weapon that the SS cult members were using?

I saw a picture of that in a news article. I hope the SS never uses that deadly weapon against the Japanese researchers or the other fishermen they hate.

Butter is not a weapon.

When you throw poisonous, rancid butter at someone - with an intent to hurt them - that is definitely a weapon.

they need to recall the names too!

Scrum is a rugby term. Sounds like a pretty bad ass name to me ;) "Don't mess with me, I drive a Scrum."

hyperbole.

Wrong. When you use military-grade lasers and biological weapons, you are trying to kill. One of the SS terrorists even boarded a Japanese ship in an attempt to kill the captain.

Yet Sea Shepherd had no problem attempting to murder the Japanese researchers.

when the black trucks drive around the Korean schools and call them 'spy-centers', and they will probably mess with Koreans over Kim winning, the police simply ask people to stay away from where the U-Yoku are 'protesting'. Charges against them? Never!

Who cares? The Japanese aren't going to buy American cars anyways. Besides, most of the Toyotas and Hondas purchased with the cash-for-clunkers program were made in America.

Welcome to "Obamaworld" where "yes we can" includes not only calling to the carpet Toyota- but also the other big three auto industry executives, banking industry, and anyone else who they believe is wronging the American consumer.

Except the US car and banking companies have not had to take responsibility for their actions under the Obama administration.
