That was an event I would never like to live through again and I hope that no one ever forgets.

It's only for people who do not live in Japan cannot understand the devastation.

I work with children who have lost parents and I interact with people who have lost family members, sometimes every family member.

My girlfriend used to live in a Ishinomaki and only by God's grace was she in Sendai on that day. Otherwise I don't think she would've made it.

Posted in: Cross-dressing Matsuko Deluxe: AKB opening Tokyo Olympics 'would embarrass Japan' See in context

It would be a boneheaded and stupid idea for AKB48 to perform at the 2020 Olympics, Opening or Closing.

Japan has real talent. The Opening and Closing ceremonies are a time to display Japanese culture, history, art and creativity.

Having AKB48 perform at anything Olympic related is like inviting the world to a dinner at 5 star restaurant (The Olympics) and serving them a 150 yen ($1.50) rice ball bought from a convenience store.

I tolerate them because I live here. But for an event on the scale of the olympics, Japan needs to show its best, not its worst.

Posted in: As a male employee in Japan, you can't really leave the office at around, say, 3 p.m. to pick up your kids and still expect your boss to grade you favorably. See in context

Placing your job over your family is exactly the reason the birth rate is in decline. Perhaps that guy didn't get the memo: we are supposed to work to support our families but the family comes first, not the job. To hell with getting graded by the boss at work. The child and the child's safety are the #1 priority

I watched every episode. The writing was cool. How they would solve the story, tie up loose ends and always have Jack save the day and lose his soul was good entertainment.

AKB needs to learn how to actually dance. Jumping & pointing are cheerleading moves and it's very boring.

"What do you think about conventional companies’ CSR activities?"

Excuse me, but if you are going to use an acronym for the first time in an article, it would help if you would explain what it means? Everyone does not know what you are talking about.

For example, What is "CSR?"

this is one of the big problems in Japan. As an English teacher, I have had 2 year olds in classes with 4 and 5 year olds because mom, "wants him in an English speaking environment." The child just walks around with no ability to understand what is going on.

This ultra-early education is doing more harm than good and needs to stop.

Posted in: Should radio stations have to pay royalties to artists whose music they play? See in context

absolutely not! The radio station is like an art gallery (dis)playing the current works of art by the artist(musician).

The customers (you and me) listen if we like the song will go out and buy it. If not for the radio, how else would the artist get the air time for people to hear their music? There are only so many t.v. shows you can go on.

Posted in: What do you think of Japanese pop and rock music? Heard anything you like? See in context

I have to agree with tkoind2. All Japanese pop music sounds alike:

High pitch, nasally solo females who sing the same way: waaaaaaaaaaaaa, wa wa wa wa waaaaaaaaaaaaa, wa wa wa wa waaa waaa waaa waa wawawawawawa. They can't sing, don't write their own music and are only on stage because they look "kawaii." And they all are cut from the same mold, except Ayumi Hamasaki, Kumi Koda, Hikaru Utada and that's about it.

Men are usually in groups who strive for the pretty-boy group look. they dance around, each one takes a turn saying a line or two, they sing a chorus, dance, repeat it all again.

The only J-pop artists who have moved me are The Gospellers, TOKIO and SMAP.

Mainstream Japanese music has no heart, no soul in my opinion. It seems to only be concern about looking good on stage and in magazines and actual talent is the remains of an afterthought of a real idea that got rejected.
