EU won't exist in another 10 years or so, Brexit was the beginning of the end for these globalist unelected bureaucrats.

I don't know about EU but my gut feeling is that Macron won't last long.

An ardent U.S. ally, Kosovo, has agreed to take in Afghanistan evacuees who fail to clear initial rounds of screening and host them for up to a year

"fail to clear initial rounds of testing" = "obviously taliban" = "male older than 14" ?

Amid public unease about their marriage due to a money dispute between Komuro's mother and her former fiance, the princess will likely decline a lump-sum payment of up to about 150 million yen ($1.36 million) usually given to female royal family members upon their departure from the household, the source said.

1 M 360K USD ? That is not a lot is it ?

Posted in: Japan weighs mixing and matching COVID vaccines See in context

So once you get vaccinated, you have to receive a booster shot every six months until the COVID-19 pandemic is over or for the rest of your life.

The rest of your life .. htmmm.. You make "the rest of your life" sounds like a really long time. Now, with the Delta mutation and hospitals rejecting admissions, if you are unlucky and get exposed to a lot of of the virus , young or old, the rest of your life might be just 2 weeks.

I think the fear of Delta is kicking in and people in general are a bit more cautious

Posted in: New Zealand wages high-stakes effort to halt virus outbreak See in context

Another challenge is a lack of intensive-care hospital beds. A recent report by a group of experts noted that at the pandemic's start, New Zealand had fewer than one-third the number than the average in developed nations, and little had changed since then.

“The New Zealand health system is still poorly resourced to deal with any large outbreak of a disease such as COVID-19,” the report found.

There that is why NZ's only option forward is to stay under a strict lock-down. It is never too late, NZ can still solve this problem.

People are still catching covid even with two doses, but it's better than being administered to hospital.

Not sure exactly where but I read somewhere that combining AstraZeneca's jab with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine produces a very strong immune response.

Posted in: Hundreds arrested in Australian protests as country posts worst COVID rise See in context

Most of the children in Sweden by now most likely have been exposed to previous variants of virus and most likely to a degree have developed immunity to COVID19 .

The children in Australia will have to go through this process for the first time with the Delta and until there is a solid indication that the little ones will be fine the ZERO COVID must continue.

Almost always an inside job!

Hmmm.. .. many many companies (and this is not just in Japan) , implement dodgy opensource dependencies they know nothing about in their solutions. This gets them faster to market but, unfortunately, almost always introduces vulnerabilities.

Posted in: Japan's governors call for COVID lockdown See in context

Japan's governors urged the central government on Friday to consider imposing a lockdown to better contain a spike in COVID-19 cases, calling the current measures "ineffective" in fighting the highly contagious Delta variant rapidly spreading across the country.

I think what they actually said is they want something lockdown-ish. So maybe a 2020 March SoE type of thing. Schools closed , Shops closed, The problem is how much an experiment of that magnitude will cost ?

Posted in: Tokyo reports 5,405 coronavirus cases; nationwide tally 25,876 See in context

It would be interesting to know the real numbers.

Why ?

-12 ( +5 / -17 )

Posted in: New Zealand virus outbreak grows to 31 cases See in context

Why would they be doing lockdowns after they get vaccinated, and as new medicine is discovered to negate the virus? That would be silly.

I think they might be right about the 10 years.

You see, NZ has purchased more then enough to vaccinate everyone 10 times over and soon I think they will be vaccinated. The dilemma for NZ now comes with the Delta strain. Paranoia of these proportions leads me to believe that NZ very likely will not be vaccinating children and given that the existing vaccines may not be as effective against infections combined with treatments that heavily depend on initial inoculation and hospitalization timing might mean the people NZ is trying to protect with the lock-downs will die if they open up.
