Posted in: Man stands trial for rape in Australian Parliament House See in context

This trial comes to us courtesy of former PM Scott Morrison. He considers himself a good Christian but somehow was not sure what to do when a up and coming party star made out with an unconscious female staffer inside Parliament House. He also lied numerous times and undercut his colleagues by taking joint portfolios without ever informing them or the public. And he is a fan of Trump, another great Christian. With recent leaders like this no wonder the country is now in trouble.

Posted in: Husband who helped wife leave Unification Church now supports others See in context

“they must beat God”. It sounds an impossible task but his invisibility, the brazen hypocrisy of each and every religion, and his total lack of action, compassion and concern for mankind would suggest otherwise. But he desires tax free status for churches, subjugates women, cares more about who we sleep with than the slavery he condones? Better conclusion: he is simply not there. There’s no one to beat.

The wrong man got sent off - as is often the case. He was to get the ball but had his hair yanked viciously. He had every right to be angry.

Posted in: Airport chaos: European travel runs into pandemic cutbacks See in context

After a few weeks holidaying in France during May, I would say only masochists should voluntarily travel there during summer. Even then it was hot, pretty crowded and to add insult to injury, expensive with the weak yen. Since then it’s become hotter, much more crowded and suffers more strikes.

If you must go, do what we did to minimize stress. Use trains for shorter trips and buy 1st class seats as often 2nd class unreserved seats were full. Fly with only hand luggage unless you enjoy lost bags. Pay a bit more to get front row seats with reserved, priority boarding.

Remember that many places (hotels, Air bnb, stores) there lack air conditioning despite the now hot summers (34 degrees in Switzerland yesterday!)

Posted in: U.S. Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade; states can ban abortion See in context

Ridiculous! The majority of Americans support women having the right to choose but not the Supreme Court. Republicans always say that don’t want the government in their lives, and to give more power back to the states but they suddenly forget their core principles when it comes to abortions. Mix politics with religion and you know the results - the whole country goes backwards, women and minorities face legal discrimination and democracy goes out the door. Welcome to the Christian Taliban!

Posted in: England shocker heaps pressure on Southgate before World Cup See in context

England crumbling at the World Cup? What’s new?

They have never been close to winning anytime in the past 50 years. Even the 2002 squad. They scored a total of 6 goals in 5 games - real contenders score that many in a game or two. English soccer = Legends in their own minds.

Posted in: Japan to ask foreign tourists to wear masks, take out COVID insurance See in context

Ridiculous, knee-jerk comments again from JT readers. The reality is that 99% of Japan residents wear masks when out. I just got back from Switzerland where not even 1% wear masks anytime or anywhere - and those who do are mostly Asians.

Requiring tourists to follow local rules is not discriminatory, it’s normal.

Donaire proved himself to be a gutsy fighter in their previous match but he doesn’t have the awesome offensive power of the Monster. There is a good reason why Inoue at 23-0 has never lost. He is simply the best. We are witnesses to boxing history. Enjoy!

Posted in: New Australian government includes record 13 women ministers See in context

Congratulations Oz! Making 13 female ministers is a huge step forward. I mean, how can they do any worse than the male idiots put in charge by the former Prime Idiot, Scott Morrison? Yes, that idiot who can sing in tongues but wasn’t sure what he should do after a young female staffer was raped by one of his party’s officials inside Parliament House. And holidayed secretly in Hawaii as bushfires ravaged Australia.

Too late! After years of reluctance, this old dude has been using a subtle Tokyu Hands men’s parasol for several 5 years. No going back now. It prevents my skin getting more spotty or cancerous & feels much cooler in my own shade. Win-win!

Totally agreed. This is a very fine sandwich at a ridiculous price. Thanks to Tony Bourdaine, the world now knows about konbini egg sandwiches and often imitates them - at 5 times the cost! RIP Tony.

Posted in: Retiring in Japan: What’s the best strategy? See in context

The 20 mill yen figure is based covering the shortfall for a couple getting 240,000 a month in pensions but spending 280,000+ just to have a simple retirement. Forget any overseas travel. These calculations were based on current life expectancy so in future, 20 mill certainly won’t cut it.

I am happily retired but wouldn’t be that way if I only got 240,000 monthly with 20 mill cash. Your choice: Save more or be miserable.

Posted in: Japan, U.S. irked by Prince Philip's intervention over runway plan, files show See in context

Yes, the distinguished British royals are always demonstrating their entitlement by saying things they have little expertise in.

Of course, Phillip was also the same 90+ year old guy causing car accidents on empty rural roads and puzzled why they wanted him to give up driving. And the father of Epstein’s favorite wing man on the hunt for underage girls. So why he was still referred to as his “Highness” until a couple of months ago? “His Royal Lowness” is far more truthful.

Yes, South Korea you are always so right. Japan is a clear and present danger to you. It attacks you with world heritage nominations and other unforgivably vicious blows. Meanwhile, your friends in the north, literally shoot at you at any opportunity, unilaterally blow up jointly owned properties, and fire missiles over your territory regularly. Yep, your problem is Japan.

Kiddies, I remember way back in the 70s when inflation hit 12-15% in Australia. It was also the time when I got paid 15-18% interest from my bank account.

Are we returning back to those crazy times again in which spending is wise and saving is for fools?

Not a long wallet user myself but I see the advantage of them from my wife who loves them. Her bills and cards are always so much neater than mine are.

As usual, the Japanese are into details. They matter. That’s why sushi started here. Everywhere else raw (unpickled) fish was tried the result was mostly food poisoning.

Posted in: Djokovic entangles sponsors in Australian Open vax uproar See in context

So Federer earns 3 times as much in endorsements than Djokovic? It should be no surprise.

Roger doesn’t smash balls into linesmen. Roger doesn’t throw his staff under the bus when caught lying on the entry card that “they” forgot he didn’t travel anywhere else before entering Australia. Roger doesn’t go around to pubic events even after knowingly testing positive. Roger doesn’t declare that prayer will purify toxic water. And Roger still lives in his home country, unlike a certain Serb player who lives in tax-free Monaco.

Two great tennis players but one player has class, the other has none - hence the huge earnings difference from sponsors. Australia has every right to kick out liars who care nothing of other’s health. Game, set and match!

Folau is an elite rugby player. Unfortunately, he abuses his fame to sprout his religious hate speech:

“Warning – Drunks, Homosexuals, Adulterers, Liars, Fornicators, Thieves, Atheists, Idolaters. HELL AWAITS YOU. REPENT! ONLY JESUS SAVES”. (2019)

He is playing here because Aussies will not accept his “free speech”. Great athletes should stick to sport and leave thinking and speaking to those more qualified.

Now living in Tokyo after stints in Osaka, Kyoto and Nagoya. I would never have moved here but for family but now that we have, it’s great!

Those other cities were great but Tokyo offers shopping, museums, transportation (domestic and international) and food far, far beyond the others. It’s not a city you want to be poor in but try being poor in London, Paris or NYC. Tokyo is terrific!

Posted in: How to live like you're earning ¥10 million a year on an income of ¥3 million See in context

This article seems to suggest that since most pensioners get by on 1.7million, workers should all be fine with 3mill. No way! As a retired pensioner, I am more than happy to have had a far higher salary when I worked, and now am receiving far more income those figures without work. Money has given us options - to retire early, to donate to charity, to travel extensively. Those options disappear without better incomes.

The secret is securing multiple income sources post-retirement by long term saving, investing wisely and being lucky. And having two very good incomes.
