The news said that the 26 year-old's own child was also there. Not sure how injured he or she is, but what a tragedy for the family!
They had interviews with some of the other parents, and they are all torn up about it. She was 7 months pregnant, and yet she was the one walking with the kids. Such a burden, some said...and that they could have taken her place and then maybe none of this would have happened...

Japan is still a rich country. Helping other countries that are less developed or in need should have no relation to the idiotic methods of government's domestic mismanagement. Why should the poor be penalized?

Wait...do anti-prostitution laws forbid having prostitutes that are minors or for prostitution as a whole?
Sad for a 13 year old to be "welcomed" into adulthood in such a way...

iPhones are not safe...I have had one (embarrassing) butt dial, as have some of my friends. I have heard about one person who got a divorce due to a butt dial. Turns out that in the heat of passion the phone called the spouse who listened to the whole heated moment.

My only worry is the several days of non-stop media talk, speculation, and so called experts discussing it to death. That will be followed up by more expert opinions about what NK will do next....
Guess it quiets the "next big earthquake" talk down...for now.

Posted in: How do you feel about being a ‘gaijin’ in Japan? See in context
Japan is my home, for now. My Japan family and all of my stuff is here.
I recently asked my father-in-law what he thinks about having a "gaijin" for a son-on-law. His response was "In my eyes you are not gaijin or anything else, you are my son."
If it were not for the awesome family of my wife, I would have never survived Japan as long as I have.

Posted in: Japanese manufacturers are facing a structural challenge in making products by themselves. No matter how sophisticated the technologies they have, Asian rivals with a great price advantage keep catchi See in context
Japan needs several things going to compete:
A favorable exchange rate
Lower overhead in companies (less upper management that sucks the profitability out of a company)
Education in being able to do international business, such as speaking foreign languages. It is amazing how many companies are still handicapped by this! There are more...but this subject is tiring and boring...manufacturing, for the most part, is dying...

I think Foxconn is going to learn how to make panels and then take over.
