BintaroToday 04:28 pm JST

The 11 countries should negotiate nothing. The US joins or stays out. The pact is done and signed, everyone agreed on the terms, there is no reason to change anything for the US.

i don't suppose they have to change anything. but they'll have to deal with aluminum / steel taxes and whatever else trump has added since leaving the original tpp negotiations. so i bet it'll be in their interest to make some concessions (japan wanting to sell cars and all)

SchopenhauerToday 06:36 am JST

Even if we have marines, without changing the constitution, it is useless. Maybe it is more profitable for Japan to have good relationship with China than confront them.

by good relationship, do you mean hand them the entire sea?

Matt HartwellToday 07:47 pm JST

Much greater use of renewables is part of a total defence policy. Really crazy to rely on centralised electricity generation.

agree w/ the decentralized renewable part - but they also don't need to have these sorts of power grid systems available from the internet. if someone needs to monitor or access them they should be forced to do it locally, not over the internet/vpn etc.

BlacklabelToday

Yeah Obama told Putin to his face to “cut it out”. Putin was so scared by that, he.....continued doing what he was doing before that traumatic encounter.

So why does Trump need to comment on this? His sec of state made a statement that should be sufficient as it doesn’t involve the USA at all.

trump tweets about celebrity nightly news broadcasts, yet stays silent when it comes to russia attacking an ally. yeah, makes perfect sense. go continue believing up is down and down is up.

@Blacklabel

These statues cant be beautiful pieces of 100 year old art? I have seen some of them, the craftsmanship of the sculptings in some of these are amazing.

sure - let them be art in a museum. they serve zero purpose sitting outside government courthouses etc.

Here's a video of the shark in the tank

http://www.grindtv.com/wildlife/great-white-shark-on-display-japan-generates-criticism/#3PbdMggIoSr2uw11.97

fact from the site above:

Only the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California has successfully displayed white sharks, after obtaining permits. The aquarium has tagged and released its sharks as soon as they’ve shown signs of stress, or have become too large.

The Monterey Bay Aquarium has put six white sharks on exhibit since 2004, and spokesman Ken Peterson says it’s the only facility “to successfully exhibit white sharks for more than 16 days, to consistently get them take food that we offered, and to successfully return the sharks to the wild.”

Elon Musk is already has trials with the 'Tesla home battery' at ~100 homes in California. This allows the person to off-peak charge the home battery, and use it to power your home, recharge your Tesla, whatever you want to do... all off-grid during peak-time. The home battery can be recharged again off-peak, or by generator, or even by solar etc given you have enough panels.

quite a nice idea.

@papigiulio - ~700 games at launch. This appears to be a little more than what chromecast/appletv/mstv is. Sony has been building a ps1/2/3 video game digital streaming/renting service for quite some time. This one top of general tv/movie streaming puts this box in a slightly different class.

Blame the predators, not the parents. Kids going to school by themselves is normal in Japan

sure predators are to blame. but the fact this 6 year old was walking the streets at 5:30PM, well after she was supposed to be home from school.. and yet the mom didn't contact police until 7PM? the parents share some responsibility in making sure their kids are safe.
