Is 6,731,000 yen with bonus or without ?

That includes the bonus. And before, insurances, taxes, all sorts of deductions.

Posted in: Philippines deports 2 robbery suspects to Japan; arrests made in-flight See in context

I was actually at the Manila airport that day when I saw a big group of Japanese men, all in their formal black suits and escorted by a great number of Philippine Special Forces. I was clueless of what's going on and even got pissed that they were blocking the main gates hallway for their meeting. For a moment I thought they looked like Yakuza, as their body language suggests high profile ranks were giving orders in the middle. The suspects are better to serve their crime in Japan. The Philippine prisons are highly susceptible to corruption and the suspects would have an easy life in detention.

Posted in: Philippines asks Japanese consumers to accept higher prices for bananas See in context

On one thesis i did in college - "PH mango in JP market" . I have noted one gatekeeper for produce imports in JPN are the supermarkets and their demand for extremely high quality (spotless, perfect shape, bright color, high margin, etc.) standards. Breaking into the JP market is akin to going through an eye of a needle. The request of the PH envoy seems reasonable and can easily be observed; the prices of imported fruits like Kiwi from New Zealand, Red Globe grapes from Chile, avocados from Mexico, orange, lemons. grapefruit from the US - are significantly higher at the same weight and volume. Transit costs based on distance of the sources does not equate to these price differences. This is beyond the law of supply and demand, because there is an authority in JPN that can control the prices of the goods.

On another note; "Pinoy" or "Pinay" are not derogatory terms for a Filipino - its the context of its use that change its meaning.

Taniguchi and a group of acquaintances allegedly submitted some 1,700 false applications...  they received subsidies in more than 960 of those applications for an estimated 960 million yen

That is a whopping 56.4% margin of error on the approver's part.. and that was just based on the case at point.

Posted in: Why are so many vaccinated people getting COVID-19 lately? See in context

Elemental science. Vaccines do not block viruses, it introduces a weaker version of that virus (MRNA/RNA) so that your body recognizes the virus and reacts to it effectively and efficiently before it gets a chance to get deeper into one's cells, regenerate and retransmit. There are stages in the entire process. If you believe that vaccines block like a sunblock would deflect UV rays, then you have to brush up on the scientific definition of a vaccine.

Posted in: Paralympic disability categories under fire over fairness See in context

I have congenital limb deficiency, enough to be classified in the Japanese Handicap classification as Level 1 handicap.

From what I gather, some see an event where people with disabilities show what they can do despite of the challenges, or as SteveinJapan puts it, an "outlet for the disabled" and everyone should just be given medals - sure, like children with candies? Some are struggling with acceptance and reality of what they see on this event, because it can hit one in their core values and understanding of human empathy and equity.

I watch the events and it is honestly as painful to watch even for a person like me with a disability. Coming out open for the entire world to see your bare body deformity, mental struggles and flaws can break a normal soul...and these athletes are there all out with what they got. It will hurt your pride, twist your innards watching people with mental, physical disabilities in weird positions, excruciating forms and ways just to get to their goal of winning an event. Go ahead, watch more until it no longer pains you.

What the Paralympics bring on the world stage is not just a showcase of the human competitive spirit despite a handicap, but most importantly (for me as a handicap) - Chance and Acceptance. A second chance for accident-impaired athletes, a kind world that opens dreams for congenital handicap persons to join the world of Sports that seem to have been exclusive to the able-bodied. If you can accept to the point that you no longer see the disability in a person, instead see a person just like you, trying their best to participate in society, carry on life with the body or mental state they never had a choice to have - then the Paralympics made this world kinder and accepting of differences - a better place. The Paralympics may have issues with classification and all that, but so does the Olympics. Same species, same issues, same joy, same triumph and defeat. It's a celebration of life for all.

That's good news.  I Just saw this case now... and I am in complete disbelief that a parent raping his own offspring can actually be acquitted (before the overturn) .  There might not be a change in the JP law, but at least this case can now be used as precedent.

The JP government need to enact laws faster than their current phase. The price-gouging practice on masks started early in February - they should've acted right away when NHK reported about it at that time. 1 month later, geez.

I'd be a bit wary of promises and contracts. Lately, subscription services often use low-price introduction offers, then incrementally increases fees after a while. It is understandable that rural areas where there are less public transport should have been considered  - But that law is also fair that if one cannot drive safely due to slowing reflexes as brought about by age, then they shouldn't be driving at all. "I have to take it seriously," said Kato, in commenting on her infection, at a press conference.

"The National Institute of Infectious Diseases suggested that...those negative can use public transport

A lay person would've taken this matter seriously on day one. Common sense would dictate testing be done before leaving a quarantine area. Anyone following the COVID-19 facts would know by now that the virus can be present and spread even when a person is asymptomatic.  Replace Kato already.

Sure, it was unpleasant for those stuck on the ship, but I think they can understand the severe risks involved.

I think I was hoping the quarantine was for the people in the ship, that they may stop spreading the virus among themselves - whilst others believe the quarantine was for the rest of Japan - outside the ship.  Why are there two sets of people here?  Suffer the few for the sake of many?

They failed to contain the virus in and out of that ship, how is that a success?

Posted in: Japan torn over whether to test all on cruise ship for coronavirus See in context

This incident exposed quite a lot of things that worried me while living in Japan :

That Japan health system is not well prepared to handle contagion outbreaks -from what it implies , the entire nation has only but a few thousand test kits and we don't have exact numbers of health centers and health care workers to respond.

At this point, I would have believed they have already mapped a contingency plan to treat all those on board the ship. Built or modified a space outside to test and treat all of them. The wait-and-see attitude in this dire situation is alarming.

China , Hongkong are at the front of battle field - why not copy what they are doing right??

Japan can ask for help - I hope pride don't get in the way of solving this crisis.
