I look forward to the day when Haruna Kojima graduates and goes all Aya Sugimoto.

In the first photo, 9 out of 11 fans are men. In the second, those two fans are definitely post-teen men.

Kawaii: It's a guy thing.

Are the French still angry at Germans?

Really, what is this thing with East Asians?

Anyway, A Realist got it pat, this anti-Japanese sentiment has more to do with socio-economic envy than anything else.

Oh no, not Big Dog... Those things come straight out of Metal Gear Solid 4.

"Happy Birthday to You", hands down.

Even with translations, most people know the Engish lyrics.

But still, you have to give that little boy some props for being the face of robotics for the last decade or so.

Give him a few more years and he'll grow up just fine.

Sometimes I wonder what is it in East Asian DNA that makes them want to hate each other so badly.

Blame it on romanticism, drama and false expectations..

Marriage is for mature people, not selfish brats who want the whole world to themselves.

Posted in: Japanese companies could be caught napping as Chinese brands go global See in context

It should be South Korea, not China.

Rarely does the global market take Chinese brands seriously at this point, and Korean brands are now where Japanese brands once were in the 70s-80s.

Chinese brands will have to wait for Korean complacency to set in (which seems quite far off into the future).

On a related note, Look at Hallyu. That is the coup de grace that killed any potential left for aggressively marketing Japanese pop culture overseas. .

Acting skills (or lack thereof) aside, this is a really great guy.

I hope he'd work better behind the scenes.

These are just run-of-the-mill Made in China print outs.

They're sold on virtually every Asian city.

The world is hanging on a balance: Stephen Hawking, Michio Kaku, Aung San Suu Kyi et al. on one end, and Seth MacFarlane and Adam Sandler on the other.

Man, people mock Microsoft like they mock the Toyotas, Opels and Chevys...

They might not look as good as Ferraris and Aston Martins, but they keep the world turning.

Haruna Kojima.

Now that's the girl that really should graduate and move on to bigger (!) things.

Too bad, they should've done this years ago. Back in the late 90s to early 2000s, Japanese expansion would have gained a strong foothold here. Then came that aggressive Korean wave.

If JAPAN NEXT, what First?

Seriously, the logo is dynamic. However, why focus on just animation, fashion and food? Why not compete head-on with Korean consumer media (K-Pop, TV dramas, films), when Japan obviously can offer better material?

I'd love to see the Emperor and the Royal Family 'rule' again.

Or at least, Junichiro Koizumi Part 2.

They can't just abdicate when things get rough, so they'll do everything in their power to get their country back on track unlike these gutless politicians who merely abandon ship.

Desperate times call for superior leaders.

OIKAWA: This girl is pretty good. Made me cry watching "1 Liter of Tears"... but maybe it's also the story.

Had she not made a fuss, she would have already been in the big league.

Posted in: Could Harry Potter return? JK Rowling says maybe See in context

The main point of Harry Potter is that Rowling already put closure on the story, and perhaps the only way it could continue is if Voldemort returns. Otherwise, I think Harry should enjoy the rest of his remaining teenage years; he deserved it.

I think 7 books is already overkill, but perhaps readers would welcome an older Harry Potter sometime in the future (and when the young readers have already grown up).
