Ahh, "companion girls", yet another wonderful euphemism!

There are so many girls clearly engaging in 'enjo kosai' in my neighborhood; and Japan is not Cambodia or Sudan, where girls need to sell sex in order to eat. No, in Japan they sell sex for cash to buy handbags and shoes. They get what they deserve. They know damn well what they are doing. Stop all this nonsense about the girls being 'innocent'. She probably complained to the police when the guy tried to pay her 20,000yen instead of the agreed 30,000yen for the nude photos.

I really don't get the fascination. I mean, I like to see a nice looking woman in sexy underwear before getting down to action, but photos of probably normal, boring underwear and no atmosphere? Kinda weird. I guess these guys get off on the 'danger' aspect?

Posted in: Fire department official arrested for paying 15-year-old girl for sex See in context

A lot of it boils down to the fact that schoolgirls and uniforms are highly sexualized in Japan. You see it all the time in advertising, even for mundane, unrelated stuff like car insurance or cough medicine; the girl in the adverts will invariably be some sexy girl/woman in a high school uniform. When you grow up with this day-in-day-out for years, I can see how a market for schoolgirl prostitution is possible. 99% of the girls doing it know full well what they are doing. Perhaps more equal wages for women might help. Rather than getting paid 150,000yen per month for working in an office 40 hours per week, I can see why some girls would prefer to earn 150,000yen in a few days just by agreeing to sleep with someone. The bottom line is, the situation is never going to change. Never.

Sadly, it's not. It happens more than you'd think for an industrialized country.

Japan is basically a third-world country with a very thin veneer of "industrialized".

Japan, the country where abortion is a totally acceptable method of contraception. Leading on from this, it doesn't take too much of a leap to decide it's okay to throw your baby away like garbage.

Posted in: 23 injured by monkeys in Shizuoka See in context

The problem is that the monkeys knew that there is nothing that the local people can do. They are protected by the government much like the deers.

Uh, what? I hunt deer and other animals in Japan freely. They are certainly not protected by the government. In fact, in my prefecture, they just increased the number of deer you can hunt in one day from one to three. You can also hunt monkeys in Japan, though I have no interest in doing that as I only hunt what I want to eat. However, to hunt monkeys, you need permission for each one you want, which can get expensive at approximately 30,000yen for one.

DarkKnightNine - couldn't agree with you more. The streetwise, far-from-innocent girls which were in the racket knew exactly what they were doing. For them to have even been approached by the suspect in the first place, they were no doubt already moving in dodgy circles, hanging out with older guys, probably hostessing, staying out late and drinking etc.....

Half the cops dealing with this case are probably kicking themselves for not finding out about the prostitution racket before it became public news.....

Posted in: Osaka man arrested for employing 50 high school girls as prostitutes See in context

This kind of thing is common here. I can see high school girls walking around with much older men any day of the week in my local city's main shopping district. There again, when the image of a sexualized, high school girl is as ubiquitous as it is in mainstream Japanese advertising, is it actually that unnatural that some men get fixated and try to take things to the next step? Also, from what I see and hear, 99% of the girls involved in such incidents are certainly not as innocent as they are portrayed in the media. On the contrary, some girls openly embrace prostitution simply to be able to buy that designer handbag or new pair of shoes. Unlike girls in, say, a poor African country, it's not as if prostitution is a Japanese girl's last resort in order to buy food or medicine! This sort of thing is a reflection of one of Japan's darker sides; the sexualization of young girls/women, rampant inequality between the sexes, vastly inferior salaries for women and the basic acceptance of adultery here, to name a few.

Prostitution is very common in Japan, in all its various guises (snack bars, hostess bars, lounges, soaplands, delivery health). You can often see young girls doing 'enjyoukousai' (compensated dating) even in my small city. The thing is, it's all 'cutesy' here and made to sound like harmless fun. Just browse through any hostess club magazine or delivery health magazine. The pages are full of little cartoons depicting what to do and how to pay etc..... The really scary thing is the total lack of awareness about STDs and safe sex.

It is very hard to get a gun licence here. And hard to get a hunting licence. It is all theory based. Typical Japanese way. No focus on practicality at all.

My hunting club gives me a free blaze orange vest every year. Not sure if it is actually illegal not to wear it though.

Hunting season in Japan is basically from November to March. These guys, if hunting legally, must have been hunting under a special licence issued only for 'pest extermination'. This is very hard to get! I know only a couple of hunters with such a licence in my prefecture. Sounds a bit fishy to me....boar hunting in June.....

Posted in: Hunter commits suicide after accidentally shooting friend See in context

As a hunter in Japan I am often invited to join guys on group hunts, usually for boar. I always decline the offers because these kinds of accidental shootings are all too common. I much prefer to go by myself. That way, the only person I have to worry about is me! Some of the things I see other hunters do is quite frankly shocking....basic gun safety, not to mention the law, is often neglected.

Compared to Broken Britain, Japan is like heaven. Here, I can go out for a drink and not have to worry about some chavs starting a fight for no reason other than sick entertainment. Come to that, there is basically no chav culture here, thank goodness. But yeah, driving here is terrible. Just the other day I saw a SCHOOL BUS with the driver letting a little girl stand in the aisle and talk to him while the bus was moving!

Japanese porn is indeed great. However, I can't help but feel a little guilty watching it sometimes when I remember that pretty much the only way for girls in Japan to make good money is to work for a snack bar/hostess club/AV company; i.e. sell themselves in a sexual way. And yeah, I agree with the above poster. Japanese porn stars are indeed way more gorgeous and 'girl next door-like' than American porn stars.
