Posted in: Doll makers association protests to USJ for using Japanese dolls in their horror attraction See in context

Heck...my kids were scared of those dolls LONG before USJ decided to display them in a haunted house.

While I can understand the doll makers' discomfort, do they really have a say in how people display items once purchased? (assuming USJ purchased them from said doll makers.)

One "no overtime day"...one measly day? What the heck are they thinking? The entire corporate culture needs to be revamped, in my opinion.

Although he cherry picks his data, Michael Moore's documentary "Where to Invade Next" was a refreshing look at how other countries work! Even though the film is aimed at American gov't and culture, I felt there were some great lessons for Japan, Inc. to learn, too!

If they go as private citizens, then no one has a right to complain. BUT...if they are going as gov't representatives or if they are on the clock when they go, that is a problem.

Does Japan have laws regarding separation of state and religion?

I completely understand the tactic but is there a flip side to it all? If you plaster anime characters all over the place, will anyone ever take you seriously?

Back home, there were orange flashing lights over the pedestrian crosswalks. When activated, all cars must come to a complete stop. Install the same lights here and a couple of days of the patrols that @Laguna mentioned....problem solved. Or is that too harsh on everyone's driving "wa"?

Instead of Abenomics, would this be a better solution: a basic income for all people in Japan?

turbotsat: Is 'community affairs department' high-stress?

That's a very good question. I don't know as I have never worked there but something is wrong. I have read too many articles about officer suicides on JT over the years.

Does the MPD have psychiatrists? If yes, where the heck are they? If no, wtf?

I know that mental illness carries some stigma here but I thought that in high-stress jobs there would be a little lenience.

Another tragic waste of life that probably could have been avoided.

Ms Feinemen, in my opinion, makes too many assumptions about the couple. Unless she is directly involved with the couple and their history, she has no authority to accurately assess their situation or background.

While the public outburst is regrettable and would make most people feel uncomfortable, I feel that the letter is too sanctimonious. I'm sure if we all look back at our time in Japan, we can all find situations where we have behaved poorly and caused negative feelings for those around us regardless of their nationality.

This is just my opinion.

Unfortunate, but correct me if I'm wrong...we have all done stupid things when we were young. She took the risk and paid the ultimate price. I feel sorry for the dead girl's friend who has to deal with this for the rest of her life.

@my2sense - This has nothing to do with race/genetics, just foolish youth (IMHO).

I am fortunate that my Japanese ex-wife had the wisdom to realize that our children need to see me on a regular basis. (We negotiated our own divorce and I have weekly visits which I cherish.) I feel for those fathers that have had their children taken away from them in a system that regards the father as disposable. However I agree with Disillusioned, be careful what you wish for.
