To all the people ridiculing "asking people the purpose of their visit": simply engaging people in conversation and reading non-verbal cues to profile potential threats is one of the main methods employed by El Al airport security in Israel. And if anyone knows what they're doing, it's those guys.

Non-intrusive profiling will always beat the kind of en masse, aggressive checks untrained staff perform at US airports.

The US halted dam building decades ago, huh? That explains the constant water shortages we hear about. But of course the environmentalists just blame that on global warming. All .5 degrees Celsius of it in the last 100 years.
