Posted in: Bullying blamed after two 13-yr-old girls jump to their deaths See in context

All too often, a bully is just as troubled a child as the victims, but they act out in a nastier way. Either way, perhaps going beyond punishment, and looking into the underlying causes of the bullying would be a smart way to go.

Gmme a break .... music and fashion are means of self expression, be it positive, negative, or nonsense. The moment we deem our opinions on such things to be more relevant than the right of people to express themselves in whatever way they wish, is the moment we are living in fear and repression.

I'd rather someone express their negativity through audio-visual means than physical. Can some of the posters not see that perhaps the people who make such music, felt that way in the first place? Would you even know about it if it wasn't for the freedom of self expression that we all enjoy today? You don't have to like it, you just have to have options. Listen to the music and have no other sources of information to make your own decisions? Weak excuse for bad behaviour. Never mind the music, where are the parents and the teachers of the youth, praising them when they do well, and teaching them better ways when they do wrong. Humans have that inate ability to do what they will. You can't stop artforms without forcing them underground and making them more fascinating, so stop whining and enjoy what you enjoy, promote what you promote, forget the rest. I don't have to like someones music to have an intelligent conversation with them. POsters here arguing about thier street cred, but trying to blame music for bad attitudes have missed the point. It just shows a stubborn refusal to accept reason, and the need to find a scapegoat, rather than look at ones own self, or the underlying reasons of any problem. Seriously, try digging a little deeper.

BTW, the poster who said something about killing people after listening to system of a down, thats hilarious. Comedy at its best. They sing songs that are anti-war, and do not promote violence at all. You are mistaking your own inability to control your emotions while hearing a certain type of sound with actual reality. I personally find thier music quite upbeat and happy. I would not consider it hardcore at all. The teens can have it.

oh and the writers writings are just the frustrated ramblings of an old guy who got left behind in the development of current music and styles. It happens, the youth will always question thier elders, and when they dont its stagnation. The human race as a whole, as well as individuals, explore thier options, and make mistakes and success where they find them. We all learn and move on.

I personally like lots of musical genres, i like baggy pants, but not down around my butt, and i have tattoos with a cultural significance that may escape some, but thats ok, I dont have piercings because they creep me out, but i dont mind people who do. And if you dont like me, thats ok too. DOnt blame the music, I think the most negative music I listened to over the years, probably saved me from acting out on some of the frustrations of growing up if anything. All my mistakes were my own, not some artists, and when I changed my life for the better, it was of my own free will, and I still listen to the same music, if not a broader range of tastes than before. gee, that darned rap and heavy metal music didnt do a good job of screwing me up now did it. YOur fired!! wheres a new invisible demon to blame?

haha.

Its all so stupid.

I can understand worrying about kids picking up bad words, but adults should not be offended by thier own language. Sticks and stones....

First real election Japan ever had, kind of. Can't hope for change if you try to cut the new-comers down without giving them a chance. I really wish them the best and hope they can fulfill what they promise. I'm looking forward to seeing the results of thier efforts. After all, it couldn't have got much worse, a different approach is what is needed.

Posted in: 5th death in Japan linked to new flu recorded as Nagano man succumbs See in context

We are always dying of somthing, weather its new flu, or bubonic plague, or the fact that every day you live gets you closer to the one when you die. The day I know I need to fear death from the flu, is the day I know I'm probably already sicker from something else and dying of that.

USNinJapan, who is making out anyone to be a saint? You might not be excusing the murder, but you are way off base ranting about the evils of the deceased. How can you be more focused on the issue of an old lady feeding stray cats than the feral old man who slayed her in cold blood?

Someone shows pity for other living bengs and is murdered for it. Getting angry is no excuse for killing someone or something. I get angry all the time, but I don't assault and kill. Even if I reeeeaaally want to. Some people have obviously never been held ccountable for thier actions thier whole lives, or have been sed to having people jump when they speak. As soon as it doesnt go thier way they revert to a 2 year olds mentality and throw a violebnt fit, but with dire consequences.

Its like when you say anything about something that America has done, which may or may not be accurate, you are labelled as anti-american. It is not anti-anything to discus a hypothesis, it is only anti if you are drawing the conclusion that, therfore, they are bad/ lesser as a group.

What is negative about saying that someone is rich, and in control of finances? is it negative hate speech and anti american to say America holds the most miltary power in the world? Is it anti-summer to say that summer is hot? You could always take it as a compliment that people can see what has been acheived by Jewish people. Maybe they are jealous of those rich families. I know I am. I also know not all Jewish people are swimming in a vat of gold coins and hundred dollar bills like Uncle Scrooge. Its all about perspective, which gets distorted when you play the victim card, as Japan does in its own ways.

By the way, I like how Klein says most 'reasonable' Jewish people consider the Japanese to be 'gentile'. A word synonymous to infedel, heathen etc. So most resonable Jewish people are Anti-Japanese!!! No wonder there is so much bad blood.

Man, sometimes people need to get over themselves. Claiming conspiracy theories against ones-self, is akin to a conspiracy theory in itself. No son, everyone is NOT out to get you. Take your damn medication.

Of course I deplore true anti-semetism, as much as anti-nonsemetism or true anti-any-group of people. almost as much as I deplore those who cry wolf.I haven't read the book though, so maybe the wolfish Jew hater Japan really is at the door.

I myself however, am deeply anti-semantic, and fear I have just contradicted myself.

Its bad enough that I am mistaken for American all the time, now they will expect me to speak badly pronounced broken Japanese and to only be able to read and write katakana and eat Burgers. Oh wait, that stereotype was already there. harmless as it may seem, promoting stereotypes doesn't do us any good. couldn't they have a cute, intelligent and fluent character? something at all positive?

This isn't the first time Japan has been questioned over its questionable racial stereotyping in media. Its not the first or the last, but it doesn't excuse it.

If I meet Mr. James, he meets my boot with his kisser at high velocity. what an annoying twerp.

I'm not surprised, I recently tended to an injured passenger at a crash on the kosoku, while Japanese people in the thousands, didn't lift a finger. when the police arrived, rather than ask if anyone was ok, they just started interrogating the driver and passenger, while others roped off and photographed the scene. They made NO effort at first aid. None at all. I was deeply ashamed for Japanese people and the Japanese police.

re. the silly cicada debate: semi says "beem beem beem beem beem beem"

I can only ear one word at most, Does that make me inferior, even though I'm from the pacific and speak Japanese?

Point number two, if you want to claim that vowels etc. blah blah as in Japanese and pacific languages make you use your right side of your brain etc. etc. blah blah blah, why is he not also arguing that the pacific people are a superior people? If it was linguistics that was the be-all and end-all then why?God why? because its a load of crap. He is just trying to create a stir and controversy and cash flow by resurrecting the pathetic and bigoted theories of nihoinjinron (not all nihonjinron was like that but that's beside the point). These theories stink like any other ressurected corpse of a theory and should be put back in the ground, salted, and burned. Totally unfounded and biased, and 100% unscientific. The closest to science this gets is by taking scientific findings out of context and tacking a wacko premise onto them. My inferior vowel starved 2 words for the day are CODS WALLOP.

Also, how superior is a vowel rich language that is so lacking in other sounds which can be found in other languages spoken?

If you want to use both sides of your brain, practice patting your head and rubbing your belly in circular motions three times a day then repeat in reverse.
