Crimea was part of Russian federation during Soviet times,than moved by Khruschev s decision to Ukraine.

After end of USSR there were many attempt for referendum as Crimea wanted autonomy within Ukraine but Kiev did not let them to do so.

I am not surprised that Crimea will be not back to Ukraine.Have strategic importance for Russia.Russia have invested a lot of money in infrastructure,Crimean bridge etc etc

Same thing applies to Lugansk,Donetsk and other areas under russian control.
