snowboard has a dress culture, as does hip hop, as does any youth phenomenon worth it's salt. He looked great, he looked sexy and cool. I agree, I wish he had won a medal too, his second run was creative and breath taking but also the stunned silence of the dress-code tut-tutters would be music to my ears.

I cannot speak on behalf of men, I have japanese divorced women friends and increasingly it has become acceptable to let the japanese father see the kids. However, if any divorcing women are out there, I am a foreign woman divorced with a japanese man and I have full custody of my kids, who by the way in response to earlier attacks , watch both japanese and western TV and are usually in bed by 9 unless the homework wars go on longer than anticipated. The custody deal was not made by lawyers, because I was warned that to take the ex to court meant heavy costs and few returns, but at their advice I made an amicable arrangement with my ex. It is my experience that most japanese men do not want the burden of actually looking after their own kids, and their new wives certainly do not want the responsibility. Although I do conceed that is not always the case, as I have three single dad friends!!My ex was also pleasantly surprised that he is allowed access to them whenever he wants. Last and not least, I made similar promises to his family, it is a family matter, and by driving my kids 200km to see their grandparents once a year, I prevented a lot of hostility. It may be a false smile, but I smile...if you can't beat them, play them... Until better laws come to pass, this is just a voice of experience.

I think that says more about your kids bro

they also like Dora the explorer, Ben 10 and scooby doo, if you want American programmes to be culturally superior....

MY KIDS LOVE JAPANESE TV.I was making a comment on the fact that Japanese Children's Tv , which they watch until 7, holds much interest. As does glancing at the tv when they come to say goodnight. The comment is that the noise, bright lights and screeching found on Japanese TV throughout the evening appeals to a younger audience in a way that the discovery channel might not. Japanese celebrities might be talented but have no way to show it because of the pachinko presentation of TV shows, loud and noisy. But don't get me started on the foreigners on TV, they are the ones who should know better!!

I think it says more about you that you let them watch it

Don't Bro Me, unlike Americans I can pronounce a whole word! I was making a comment on the fact that Japanese Children's Tv , which they watch until 7, holds much interest. As does glancing at the tv when they come to say goodnight. The comment is that the noise, bright lights and screeching found on Japanese TV throughout the evening appeals to a younger audience in a way that the discovery channel might not. Did I really have to justify my parenting so that you could read yourself in print? Japanese celebrities might be talented but have no way to show it because of the pachinko presentation of TV shows, loud and noisy. But don't get me started on the foreigners on TV, they are the ones who should know better!!

Because being obese is not a talent.

Because being amazed at something nondescript (such as noodles) is not a talent.

Because squeaking is not a talent.

Because eating something is not a talent.

Because nodding whilst watching somebody else eats is not a talent.

Because hitting somebody with a squeaky hammer is not a talent.

Because shrieking that something is cute is not a talent.

It's a long, long list. How much time have you got?

EXACLY!!!!!!!!!!

my kids LOVE japanese TV what ever the hour, that speaks volumes about what the level is. Last year, a famous japanese presenter won the world record for appearing on the most TV shows, you couldn't do that if you actually concentrated and produced quality. I love Japan, the people and the nature but the TV.....sorry!!

have none of you ever had kids??, if the child is sleeping and it's only a minutes shopping, plenty of mothers would dash in....western parents would lock the door. Countryside japanese wouldn't .....but it's in Nagoya...don't blame a stress out mum unless you are one you can never appreciate the difficulty of carrying a baby in one arm, a basket in the other and opening your purse with your teeth....
