So basically they have reached such a low in creativity and taste that they simply gather some young ladies and call them something with 3 letters followed by 48.

Hopefully a sensor that sends a warning when you get too close to other people when you are walking, and an electric shock when you have been looking at your screen for too long without taking a break.

JeffLee. Except, being J-Pop bands, their vans would not be full of equipment (they can`t play anything), but full of make-up, hair gel and Yokai Watch stuffed animals.

Posted in: Top court backs punishment of 2 men for sexual harassment comments See in context

That is all they said!? Wow! Does not really seem all that offensive. Watch out men. You are not allowed to be men anymore. Just start sitting down to pee. I am all for punishing people for sexual harassment but this case seems pretty lame.

Posted in: The evolution of 100-yen shops and how they've changed people's lives See in context

These shops are getting better all the time. Some of the products are even made in Japan. We have a shop called Dollarama in Canada. Not everything is a dollar anymore but they are starting to carry name brand products for $2 or $3 which other stores cannot match. Crest toothpaste for $1.25. Hard to beat.

Posted in: Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is considering a visit to Pearl Harbor in spring as part of activities to mark the 70th anniversary of Japan's surrender in World War II. It would be the first visit to Pearl See in context

For Abe to go, no! He will probably bring up re-writing textbooks to make Japan look better. I can just imagine how this will play out in the Japanese media.

So! Work has barely begun getting people in Tohoku out of temporary housing. In fact, construction projects for the Games takes skilled labourers away from reconstruction. Makes me sick.

It has taken six years, but the Obama Administration has finally dug the U.S. out the disaster created by Bush et al. Hopefully people have learned their lesson and don`t go out and buy $800 000 houses with a Hummer to go with it again.

Kaynide. Yes, the headshot in the corner of the screen was the last straw for me. I can`t even look at tv when those programs are on anymore.

It cant be very fulfilling to win simply because there is no other viable option. Wouldnt it be terribly embarrassing to call that a victory?

Posted in: Japan's looming benefit cuts an unspoken, unsettling election theme See in context

What needs to be cut is the inane spending on unnecessary public projects, and government waste. But no, they want the average citizen to feel this is all their fault.

Posted in: Japan's CO2 emissions hit record as fossil fuel consumption rises See in context

Implement a nation-wide energy efficiency/savings program that has some teeth. There are still millions of unnecessary lights on all over the country during broad daylight. Make sure homes and buildings are properly insulated with double-pane glass (it`s not new you know), fine people for leaving their cars idling while they read manga in the convenience store, and the list goes on, and on, and on.........................Problem solved. But, that is too simple it seems.

Posted in: The pay increase at the BOJ is another good sign that a virtuous cycle of Abenomics is spreading in Japan. Wage increases in the government and at the BOJ will promote raises at private companies. See in context

Oh, I see. No, wait, I don`t see. So, increasing government salaries is an effective way to bring down the debt? Wow! That takes a lot of b@lls. That is a total insult to everyone in Japan.

Posted in: The Japanese gov’t says nuclear power remains essential, saying the economy cannot afford the mounting costs from importing gas and oil, resulting in utilities hiking rates. Do you agree? See in context

Agree with some above here. If this was really the issue, the government would have made a serious attempt at increasing the efficiency of homes and buildings to reduce energy consumption. Instead, they keep rehashing the same, tired old argument about needing nuclear. Lights are still on everywhere during the day (and overnight). Walls of buildings are still wafer thin with little insulation. Many windows are still single pane. And the list goes on and on. Weren`t we having this same conversation three years ago? Nothing has changed. Increase efficiency, decomission the reactors and use renewable energy sources. I realize this takes time, but there is not even a plan in place. Their answer is simply to continue with business as usual. Where are the people of vision?

Posted in: Do you think airfares advertised online or at travel agents should include the fuel surcharge? See in context

I think maybe the fuel surcharge could start to be reduced or even removed as the price of oil has dropped to less than $80 a barrel and is expected to fall further. The fuel surcharge was introduced when oil was up around $150. Enough already.

Used to work for an Eikaiwa that was part of a juku chain. The Japanese staff regularly sent stuff to us that needed to be put in correct English. It was funny, but the final result was never what we suggested. Sorry. No sympathy here.
