Posted in: Akihabara becoming increasingly weird See in context

I agree Akihabara has changed a lot in recent years. Yodobashi has put a lot of the smaller, old school outlets out of business and it seems the anime themed places have taken over. Somethings have improved, but alot of things have gotten worse there.

Posted in: Denver lobbies for direct flights to Tokyo See in context

I am from Denver and would LOVE direct flights back home!! One of the main reasons is my daughter, who I hope will be able to fly back to see grandma and grandpa from time to time, will be able to do so on her own once there is a direct flight! Every connecting flight either from Seattle, Minneapolis, LA or San Fransisco has been fully booked to Denver and back and many of the same travelers were on my Tokyo flight. I think it certainly makes sense!

Posted in: Sex becoming a luxury for working poor See in context

This is the real problem;

This masturbatory surge has Dr Akaeda worried. “An increasing number of men who indulge in immoderate and continual masturbation,” he says, “suffer a diminished ability to ejaculate with a live sexual partner.”

Lots of Japanese guys are OBSESSED with masterbation...from a girls perspective here, I have met LOTS of Japanese single men who would happily talk about the different ways they wanked off a day...but when they even had the chance to "get some" from a real woman, their equipment wouldn't even begin function. This happened with a couple of my Japanese ex-boyfriends, and they were in their early 20s. Did not exactly make a very good impression on me to say the least!

Posted in: What are your views on parents hitting young children as a means of punishing or disciplining them? See in context

An intentional spanking on the rear end or a smack on the hands (after a firm warning)yes. Parents should have the right to do such things should they choose to do so.

An intentional slap, kick, punch, whack on the head, shove, bash or throw, NO WAY!

Posted in: Family restaurants face uncertain future See in context

We have stopped going to family restaurants due to price increases and wierdos sleeping at the tables. Plus, the menus have gotten fancier and although the food quality has improved, we can only afford Saizeria or occassionally, Jhonathans for breakfast. Denny's is way too expensive. Like I can afford to feed a family of 4 for breakfast at 4,000 yen a pop at least. No thank you!

Posted in: Japan in need of moral education See in context

Moral education in schools is not going to make any kind of impact as long as parents are raising their kids to be immoral. Many parents lie, cheat, steal, gamble, drink, smoke, abuse and neglect their children on a large scale, so how do you expect children to change their ways?

Kids need role models, good practice, dicipline and even reasons for why they should behave morally, not textbooks and teachers. Parents need to monitor behavior at home and teach children to control their impulses and behavior and this means, parents themselves need to do the same thing.

Don't get me wrong, there are good and virtuous homes out there and even a few good kids are coming out of rough homes, but until society changes (starting in the HOME, not the schools) things can only be expected to get worse.
