Too many letters. I vote for just returning to "gay".

Posted in: Officials of Yokohama City have proposed a ban on smoking at all roughly 2,700 parks they manage, including popular tourist spots, with violators facing fines of 50,000 yen. What do you think of this proposal? See in context

Stop selling ciggies in all the convenience stores. Make the addicts crawl to an isolated store somewhere far away from other oxygen breathers.

Eye-catching photo of the moment.

Posted in: Because we are required to prevent secondhand smoke, the decision was unavoidable if we put our customers first. See in context

Good move. Now extend it to all the coffee shops, restaurants with those useless "smoking areas", side walks, and anywhere people are breathing.

FWIW, the Museum used to be more realistic and gritty. Now it is a cleaned up act soliciting your tears for the fallen hapless Japanese soldiers. Not much mention of the victims of the Japanese throughout Asia.

Hakuho/Miyagino, hang in there and outlast this bullying from the JSA geezers. Better times are ahead.

Posted in: Japan's ruling bloc approves next-gen fighter jet exports See in context

Exporting fighter jets to countries, and making them promise not to use it fight? Or anyone else they might sell it off to? Goes Kishida, the LDP, and Komeito not know that fighter jets will certainly be laundered?

HSE: links to these claims? "...next generation modular nuclear reactors with lower temps, no risk of meltdown etc."

When I visit Kyoto, I rent a bicycle and avoid the bus system entirely.

My deepest condolences to Nishiyama. A mere 40 seconds or so from going to Paris. That explains his buckets of tears at the end. I would feel the same!

Posted in: U.S. airman dies after setting himself on fire outside Israeli embassy in Washington See in context

Aaron Bushnell's full quote is missing from this AP whitewash.

“I will no longer be complicit in genocide,” he said in his video. “I am about to engage in an extreme act of protest. But compared to what people have been experiencing in Palestine at the hands of their colonizers, it’s not extreme at all. This is what our ruling class has decided will be normal.”

Delivery by drones? No, thanks. Think of the noise pollution. As far as I know, those things are very noisy.

Lawrence of Arabia. After watching it eight times, and doing a lot of research, I now understand it completely. Great film.

Wish it were so here in Tokyo, especially with staff everywhere. Also, would not mind seeing snow in Tokyo this winter!

Will we ever read this: "The government is pushing for decreased use of energy, frivolous lighting, and increasing use of insulated homes and buildings and all possible sustainable, clean energy."?

Use part of it to refund bringing back trash cans/bins throughout Tokyo and Japan. That would be worthwhile.

Posted in: Tokyo fish market opens seafood restaurants, spa complex to attract more visitors See in context

Anyone else notice the strong flavour of irony here?

Gov. Koike promoting a recreation of what she and her cronies destroyed by moving the wholesale market from Tsukiji.

Couldn't have left it where it was and clean up and rebuild the market in place, oh no. Land too valuable that must have more of the same condos and malls, oh dear.

I suppose I will go have a gander at the new fantasy, and mourn that it replaced the real thing.

Quote: "One obvious question is whether the coast guard plane was on the runway . . . "

Seem quite obvious that it was, otherwise there would be no accident, collision, "incursion", or crash.

As to why it was there, we shall have to wait and see.
