Why isn't Japan cloaking every south facing building with solar cells? Harnessing it's geothermal energy? Building H.E.P dams on its major rivers? Creating reservoirs with pump storage abilities in its numerous mountains? And creating electrical generating tidal lagoons around its vast coastline to harness the power of the twice daily tides? Then, it wouldn't need to worry about the world oil price. Or deal politely with autocratic nations.

Quasi Emergency? What emergency? Schools all open, trains packed like sardines. Everybody all starting and leaving work at the same time. Nothing has changed. Virus spreading like wild fire in schools, and on public transport. Oh and as usual the government hasn't prepared enough people to give boosters, or readied the medical system. Literally, nothing has changed.

Maybe stop spending all your energy on coveting other nations territories, and disappearing any opposition. Then, you might have a bit more energy left to focus on sport improvement.

If the democracies of the world really want to get tough on China, they need to stop trading with it. Boycotting an Olympic games is pathetic and won't make any difference.

If Japan encouraged it's motorists to use electric cars, and generated the electric power via solar, wind, tidal and geothermic it could massively reduce its reliance on imported oil.

Those who persist in advocating more nuclear power need to reflect upon Fukushima. The massive clean up costs of a disaster, and the associated human misery and relocation, are often not factored into calculations when deciding upon the suitability of building new nuclear plants.

The Pacific Ocean seems to be full of clear cellophane plastic wrapping, the sort that used to encase cigarette packets. So, all plastic wrapping should be phased out and banned.

It's awful to witness this dark Chinese fascism metastasize in Hong Kong. The democracies of the world really need to stop trading with fascists.

Social media has become an integral part of everyone’s life

Not my life. I quit all social media three years ago. Best thing I ever did Been using the time I've saved to learn a language instead.

It's surprising to me, that after gifting the Covid virus to the world, China expects to hold a great big happy sports day whilst around the world people are still suffering.

I'm absolutely not going to waste my remaining life minutes watching sport on TV. And even if I was given free tickets, and travel to watch the China Olympics, I wouldn't go.

I would be too scared of disappearing into a dark prison for having a political opinion opposed to the Chinese Borg.

Japan can not realistically expect to be accepted as a true democracy if it retains its unelected head of state. If they are serious about wanting more royals, they should have a word with the Queen of England. Her family are multiplying like rats. There are loads of them.

I'm sick of our so called democratic nations worrying about offending fascist dictatorships like China, and North Korea. It's time to stop trading with these monsters until they introduce real democracy.

Does having no recollection of the incident provide some kind of passport to freedom? It would be an interesting article if this newspaper collated conviction statistics with those arrested making that statement.

There's no point painting the crossing markings if the rules on using the crossing aren't enforced. Drivers are already lazy and polluting, so should obey traffic laws and give way to pedestrians. The Japanese police need to enforce the laws.

So, Japan places trade above human rights? Let's be honest, that's how all the other nations behave too. It's what has allowed China to grow unchallenged into a monster.

When the first lock down happened, the local Tokyo playgrounds were packed with left at home kids that had escaped their parent at work households. They were finally enjoying their childhood unsupervised. I've never before, or since, heard as much laughter and seen such play happening amongst the youth here. Of course, that couldn't be allowed to continue. The next lockdowns really were lockdowns for the kids. And if you think those children will grow and become good adults in the Japanese school system, you have a lot to learn. Conformity and non confrontation creates stressed out, depressed children. Hence the high suicide rates of Japanese students.

The world needs to impose an agreed international carbon tax on the biggest polluters starting at 15% and increasing by 5% every year.. That would immediately make all the unwanted cheap plastic tat produced in China too expensive for most customers and make Australian coal too expensive to. Countries would stop shipping items from half way across the globe and begin producing locally again which would help limit transport pollution.

Guys like this with a death wish should be able to get a suicide pill from their doctor and end their own life in peace. It would stop the crazy behaviour they resort to, in orfder to get hung.

Nuclear is toxic. An island nation like Japan needs to pursue tidal lagoon energy. Guaranteed electrical generation twice a day whatever the weather. And combine that with pump storage.

Give this loser what he wants as soon as possible. Hang him from the neck until he is dead. And good riddance to bad rubbish.

I still have two unused at home. They serve to remind me how politicians rarely let a good crisis go to waste, and shovel as many public funds as they can to their rich friends.
