S.Korea won't take it to the ICJ because they know they will lose.

The communist Chinese are helping N.Korea with their nuclear missile capability and will take back S.Korea soon. All they are waiting is for Japan to bow down to China so China can take Senkaku.

All those historic facts mean nothing. Less than 200 years ago, the U.S. had treaties with Native Americans. The U.S. isn't planning on giving back land to them or even back to Mexico, which used to own most of the western half of America until 1848. The U.S. owns ALL of it now.

Current Internationally agreed laws states that Japan owns the Senkaku islands and is the rightful owner since 1895.

Taiwan and S.Korea was an Allie of Japan in WWII. The people of Taiwan are ignorant. When the Chinese commies were slaughtering all those people in Nanjing and blaming it on the Japanese, right at the end of WWII, Japan helped most of those people move to Taiwan. And when the S.Koreans were getting attacked by the N.Korean commies, who was there to help S.Korea? Japan. So you Taiwanese better start thinking or else you will end up losing everything to the communists - your factories, your schools, your homes. I visit Hong Kong every year. The people there are NOT happy. The people are getting more and more poor while the commies get rich. They can't even stop the government from taking their homes away and tearing them down to build hotels and office buildings.

Japan should push back. Japan will not give up the Senkaku islands. China is truly a cowardly country trying to steal the islands by threat of military force. Let they try and take it. China will back down. They know that they will lose. The U.S. and the rest of the world will back Japan if China tries anything because if Japan fails, then the rest of the world will follow.

Romney’s comments about the 47% of Americans who do not pay taxes and are dependent on government were not a new theme for Republicans, and it was a largely accurate figure...

Of course it's accurate. He's one of the 47%. Even Bain capital took federal corporate welfare money to stay in business.

It would be very easy to point the missiles at China if needed. All you need is a wrench and a screwdriver.

That is not true. Actually Japan can engage in military activity. Japan Air Self-Defense Force has been utilized in U.S. and U.N. military conflicts in the middle east and Afghanistan and Pakistan. And Japan can unilaterally execute military force in cases of National security. So if Japan feels threaten by China and they surmise that it would be in the best interest of Japan to protect Taiwan, believe me, they will. If Japan feels threatened by N.Korea, they will launch missiles and bomb the crap out of those commies too.

Posted in: Asian territory disputes could trigger war: Panetta See in context

If Japan loses the Senkaku due to military pressure from China, there will be war in Asia. I hope the U.S. can see this. Has people forgotten the territorial expansionism by Germany in WWI and WWII? China is trying to follow the same historic pattern of territorial expansion. Did you know that China actually loves Hitler? In China, Hitler isn’t known for the Holocaust, but rather for achieving social stability with a very high human cost. “In general, they refer to him as very "lihai", very hardcore, someone who is strong, powerful,”

Taiwan, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Brunei will all lose territory to China. S.Korea will be hit by N.Korea. Has anyone been to Tibet lately? China excluded all foreign journalists and diplomats from the Himalayan region as they systematically torture and execute dissidents?

Do you think Japan and the rest of these nations are going to stand around and do nothing? Panetta is ignorant and doesn't realize the severity of the situation. If they don't take sides correctly and get involved you are looking at the beginnings of WWIII.

Basically China is the aggressor trying to steal islands that are internationally agreed as Japan's. The ROC signed the Treaty of San Francisco, even though they did not like it, they agreed to it.

Those so called Taiwanese activists are actually Communist plants in Taiwan. The Chinese want the support of Taiwan, but regardless, most of Taiwan knows that the only reason why Taiwan exists was due to the help of Japan at the end of WWII. The Commies were going to kill off millions of Chinese and with the protection of the Japanese army they escaped to Taipei. So Taiwan won't support mainland China. Also, Japan is the only reason why Taiwan hasn't been invaded by China - they fear that Japan would protect Taiwan too.

The U.S. will protect Japan against China since it is China who is obviously helping the N.Koreans. Whether you point the missiles at N.Korea or China you are still pointing them at the same enemy.

Japan should stand up against China and I will guarantee it will back down. Any military attempt by China will not only be a threat to China, but to the U.S. as well. China sees Japan as being a coward and will give in to China.

Japan should follow the German model. At peak usage they were able to sustain 50% of their country's need on solar and wind. Japan should also try and develop tidal and current technologies since they are close to the ocean, as well as more geothermal.

China's empty threat. So what? It won't affect Chinese consumers. They know the quality of Japanese goods cannot be beat. However, there's a lot of business that China can lose if Japan feels threatened. They can lose a lot of manufacturing jobs. If this happens, the people won't like it. And when the people don't like that, they might protest the Chinese government. The time for revolution in China is getting near.

Posted in: Fishing industry says Setonai Sea too clean for the fish See in context

This is actually incorrect in most cases, as you are trying to describe the events of a "red tide" backwards of the generally accepted order. The bacteria and plankton actually thrive because of nitrogen and phosphorous rich water, and thus consume both the fuel sources and massive quantities of oxygen. After a "red tide" event there is the possibility of denitrification, but that is generally short lived and not nearly long enough to remove all the nitrogen added.

This article talks about a very different event, which is practically the reverse of an algae bloom, in which levels fall enough so that an area cannot sustain significant numbers of larger organisms by a lack of nitrogen and phosphorous.

Very likely this region had only slightly higher levels before the factories, and after the factories but before the clean water laws it actually was providing just below the limit for an algae bloom, hence acting like a sea wide version of farm fertilizer. If they were to check records from before the 1960s, they would likely find that just a bit more fish were present than there are now, and that fish populations swelled as nitrogen/phosphorous levels increased.

The most simple test is to measure the amount of free oxygen in the water. It is very, very low. Thus the lack of fish. The hypoxia is caused by pollution - which is in most cases absolutely correct.

This article is hogwash....

De-nitrification occurs in water where oxygen, a more energetically favourable electron acceptor, is depleted, and bacteria respire nitrate as a substitute terminal electron acceptor.

Oxygen depletion or hypoxia occurs due to fossil fuel emissions and water pollution from fertilizers and sewage. This in turn kills the bacteria and organisms which make nitrogen available to plankton and other forms of plant / sea life.

Most likely the culprits are, over-fishing, sea temperature rising, and over pollution.

S. Korea won't take it to international court because they know they will lose. Historically, it has been internationally recognized as belonging to Japan and the S. Korean government knows it, since they signed the agreement and treaties as well.

The ownership of those islands have already been resolved decades ago, with China, S.Korea, the U.S. and with international agreement.

What Japan needs to do is to send out their navy and protect their islands using military force. When N.Korea starts launching missiles over S.Korea, Japan should step back and tell the S.Koreans, they can take care of those issues themselves. Don't bend to the ridiculous claims and historical lies of China and S.Korea.

If Japan does it the proper way that I aforementioned, then the responsibility is on them. If China wants those islands, it will have to start a war with Japan and forsake international agreements. This will make China look like an aggressor with little care to the international community. If S.Korea has to take care of their own defense, they won't push the sex slave or island disputes.

History shows that Japan has already made reparations to the S.Korean people for the sex slave issue and island issues as well as territorial issues with China. The Treaty of San Francisco signed by 48 nations on September 8, 1951, at the War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco, California came into enforcement on April 28, 1952.. Japan gave Korea $468 million dollars for the S.Korean government, to distribute funds to all war victims caused by Japanese occupation. China receive over $14 billion dollars.
