@ ClippetyClop

Naturally yes brand endorsement and revenue area part of the same.

The opportunity cost of having a market share in SK market is immense.. until the cost exceed the benefit.

But if majority of stakes are involve in the local populace which is part of the strategy (Koreans sell to Koreans)

then by a logic aside, any detriment to business affects the stake holders aka the Korean Populace, and by logic the Korean populace loses.

As porn according Cambridge:

pictures, books, television programmes , newspaper articles, etc. that are intended to be exciting for people interested in a particular subject or particular product:

This is pretty good defition to SK mentality involving the Japanese 90 years ago

Its already doomed and they have failed

Why? The protesters where expecting international condemnation of the PRC.

Which didn't happen.

More so, a few years after the transition, the British had a few agreements as part of the contract (sorry I don't have any sources ) which the Chinese violated

and when the UK diplomatically complained the Chinese threatened with trade disruptions and the UK caved in.

This SK college student's lack of historical understanding really shows what biased revisionism taught in the SK school system can do.

If you think that Japanese students lack academic prowess, Korean college students are way way worse in academic discources and critical thinking, the only thing matters is what clan you belong to.

Chinas ecomnomy will be the largest in the world within 20yrs and any country that want to get shut out of the massive profits from their growing 300million middle class is just plain stupid

You're right, at current trajectory it is a mathematical certainty that they will surpass the united states.

Do you know why?

Its not because they have ingenuity (they have none), or because of incredible strategic management (there is none), but it's simply because they have more people

more= more production = more consumption = more inputs

But I have incredible faith that Chinar will mess it up, like they way they handled the financial situation from a couple years ago when the Shanghai Composite dropped to its lowest level. The world was baffled the way they handled that situation.

If the currency is devalued then profits will shrink significantly from and foreign perspective and doing business in that market will not be as attractive.

But I think ulterior motive is to create strong demand from local products by making foreign imports incredibly expensive lessening consumer choices.

Posted in: China threatens retaliation if U.S. tariff hikes go ahead See in context

Beijing will take unspecified "necessary countermeasures," the Cabinet said in a one-sentence statement.

Nothing like vague threats to showcase that you don't have good plan of action.

Go ahead devalue the currency, it will make your exports more attractive and bring increase sales

,but on the other hand, it kill your any growth that you have since the cost capital will increase significantly and also your foreign debt.

What's that you say? We have large dollar reserves.

Go ahead and use it, but defeats the purpose of having those reserves. Which were meant to use in extreme global uncertainty/ like a government overthrow or a full financial meltdown.

So either Chinar is really nervous or they don't know what their doing.

Honestly, the comfort women movement could have been used to help women's rights, bring awareness of war time rape, and human trafficking ( which SK has big problem).

Instead it was framed as anti Japanese and politicized in the name of nationalism. Doing this made the movement lose all credibility and compassion.

I feel sorry for the people that are being used as political pawns, and more importantly for the way that the SK government handled the movement that made the world not care.

I'm not sure how Seko can be in charge of anything related to trade yet,

"From the start, it is totally unclear under what basis South Korea can say that Japan's export control measures don't meet the export control regime," Seko said on Twitter.

He nails it completely.

I wonder if Tokyo help SK by removing itself from SK's whitelist and let them keep their own exports. As these types of toxic relationships are not beneficial for anyone.

@ np complete

They could have long ago, taken the path which Germany chose...

Notice how NO ONE ever accuses Germany of any history white washing or denial...

That's not correct, several European countries have continued to demand reparations. Which happens any time they don't get a prefer treatment.

This brought a back lash from the German people who refuse to give anymore.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/mar/12/german-anger-over-greek-demand-for-war-reparations

Germany never gave reparations for its colonial massacres during its expansions in Africa.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/dec/25/germany-moves-to-atone-for-forgotten-genocide-in-namibia

But the real gold is South Korea has refuse to recognize its war crimes in Vietnam.

Here is a nice little excerpt from Wikipedia;

A September 1, 2017, article on Justice for Lai Dai Han's website said, "In an audacious display of dishonesty and hypocrisy, Seoul is always quick to highlight the suffering of its own people during past conflicts, but develops a severe case of national amnesia when facing its own crimes in Vietnam."[51]

Allegations of wartime rape has recently been raised in recent years, with testimonies from offspring fathered by South Koreans in the Vietnam War known as Lai Đại Hàn were ostracised and neglected by Vietnamese society following the war

http://english.hani.co.kr/arti/english_edition/e_international/688436.html

Now something about a sincere apology and compensation...

Posted in: South Korea to remove Japan from preferred trade list See in context

Seoul said some South Korean companies exporting to Japan will be able to receive exceptions from case-by-case inspections

So it's just symbolic and otherwise just used to try to maintain some competitive advantage. Is there a competitive advantage?

After spending weeks berating Tokyo for allegedly weaponizing trade and vowing retaliation, South Korean President Moon Jae-in struck a more conciliatory tone on Monday, saying that his government will refrain from "emotional" reactions to Japan over the trade dispute.

LOLLOL Good example of what not to do as world leader : ) Lets subgroup this guy next to Trump and Kim Un

Sung said the changes are expected to enter effect sometime in September, following a 20-day period for gathering public opinion on the issue and further regulatory and legal reviews.

Doesn't sound like they know what they are doing.

He said Seoul is willing to accept any request by Tokyo for consultation over the issue during the opinion-gathering period

I don't think Tokyo really cares too much about what SK does to its own economy or whether it trades with it or not. If its a cost benefit analysis then the cost of doing trade with SK outweigh the benefits. In the end SK needs Japan than the other way around.

@SJ

Japan's export regulation is as much as suicidal as Kamikaze, and cannot last long, unless Abe is a crazy man.

Your absolutely right export controls do harm free trade and so do seizing corporate assets under the guise of court decisions.

Another common misunderstanding on economic wars.

Not sure what sure talking about here but,

1.    This is not an economic war this is just two silly governments drunk off nationalistic pride.

2.    It is mathematical certainty that any negative inputs in S Korea’s economy will be felt  more severe due to the size of its economy and the size of its human capital relative to Japans.

Posted in: Japan, led by less apologetic generation, stays tough in S Korea feud See in context

"The reality of historical redress settlements is that it boils down to a cost-benefit matrix," Underwood said.

"It is only when the costs of perpetual intransigence are perceived as greater than the costs of settlement that anyone moves," he added.

This is the most important point in the article and an important concept to keep in mind when considering the current situation.

But honestly, Tokyo is probably going to wait to out and negotiate with the next SK leader who hopefully is more competent.

In the mean time it will be just Tit for Tat if SK hurts Japanese interest then Japan will hurt Korean interest.

If this is the case, Japan will come out on top due to economic scales and demographics.
