If I were Japan I would close the embassy until the statue is removed.

Tunisia is cool for being where Star Wars was filmed, and the origin of Tatooine. This guy makes it much less cool.

Posted in: 'Comfort woman' statue at Sydney church upsets Japanese-Australian community See in context

I would turn it into a hilarious meme mocking the Koreans for their victim complex. Every day dress the statue as Hatsune Miku or Santa Claus or some other inappropriate thing and spread photos on the Internet.

橙 daidai, which is the kanji for Orange, for the Orange One.

Actually it was a good year. Spent a nice time with family back home. Made some successful products.

If I know Japanese tax officials, they'd try to tax the first person's estate, then the second person's again after only a few hours, leaving breadcrumbs for any children

Posted in: Finding work in Japan: If you don't want to teach English, don't See in context

I run a business in Japan, and let me tell you it is quite hard to find the right employees. At least out in Gunma where we are. Japanese people themselves are often lacking in the skills we need, technical skills, web related skills, development for software or web applications, and so we have to turn to foreigners. It can be quite hard to find the right person, and we never know what will get when we start looking for an applicant. If you have advanced skills, you should be able to work in many different kinds of companies, and if you don't have the skills the market is asking for, you should probably go get them.

Posted in: Trump claims millions voted illegally; divisions emerge over Romney for cabinet post See in context

When I registered to vote online I had to enter my address and drivers' license number, which were verified against my tax records. Everyone has to go through this, meaning that any people who illegally register to vote or actually vote in a fraudulent way will dozens per election, not thousands, and certainly not millions.

Certainly we should do a recount in any debated state. This is to preserve our Republic. Note that if it looks like Trump might not win, he will once again start railing about intending to jail Hillary, mark my words.

Trying to come up with a witty comment, all I got is, "You came in that thing? You're braver than I thought." Though at 19 she was gorgeous.

Posted in: S Korean president replaces PM, others amid scandal See in context

Gotta say, I've always been impressed at South Korea's readiness to tackle its own powerful people when they do wrong. Also, there was a case in which a SK company stole patents from Lionel trains, and the SK government sided with the American creator against their own, since the wrongdoing was obvious. Not all countries would do that.

LOL at everyone's true-to-form reaction. At least he, like Koizumi, has the ability to not get kicked out office in 9 months. He's all we have.

My wife is a big fan of Ebizo. She brought me along to one of his talks and had me stand up and speak, knowing that the only gaijin in the room would stand out enough to be noticed and called on. It worked perfectly.

Happily, Japan does not have official "dual citizenship" but they do have "tatemae," which serves the same purpose here. Hence, my kids have de facto dual citizenship. Problem solved.
