No revolution that's sold to us as loudly as this will actually arrive. True revolutions sneak up on us, like TCP/IP.

They would have no standing. It's like Koreans suing Japanese companies inside Korea to make themselves feel better. It won't help anything.

Posted in: Who has the better claim to the disputed isles controlled by Japan as the Senkakus but claimed by China as the Diaoyus? See in context

It was the opinion of the U.S. government that Takeshima/Dokdo belonged to the Japanese. I don't think MacArthur ever voiced an opinion on Senkaku, though they were developed by Japan (a fishing cannery if I recall). On the other hand, they were considered to be part of China since ancient times, unlike Takeshima/Dokdo.

Nice pun. Writer is a Love Liver, confirmed.

In my 25 years in Japan there was no darker time than the DPJ's period in office. Horrible policies, actively anti-business platform, antagonizing of every political and trading partner, and in the end, the Earth shook them out of power. I know LDP isn't perfect, but it's all we got.

@Serrano, it's a good thing the Bush administration didn't run private servers or delete millions of emails. I guess it's okay if it's the party you like rather than the uppity woman who doesn't know her place?

You cannot insult your way into the Presidency Mr Trump. And Hillary is not the evil person you currently pretend she is but a stateswoman with a long career of public service.

Posted in: U.S. poised to hit Obama's target of 10,000 Syrian refugees See in context

I love it when the (nearly always) conservatives quake in fear about a few refugees being let in. They're so scared! With all those guns, can't they defend themselves against some impoverished poor Syrians, many of whom are Christian, not Muslim?

Posted in: What do you think of Japan's health insurance system? See in context

The proof is in the pudding, and Japan's longevity and high level of happiness is in part due to their excellent (overall) medical system. It's a shameful fact that I, an American blogger, can't even write about Japan's healthcare system without being attacked as being a "communist" for thinking that the approach of Japan (and the UK, and Canada) clearly brings the best result.

It would also help if Apple didn't make its users wait a year longer per upgrade cycle than they want to wait. There are, right now, new chips for all Apple's major computers waiting to be added. They declined to give us what we want in a speedy way, because "iPhone! iPhone! iPhone!" Meanwhile I have employees working with 6 year old Mac Pros because Apple won't deign to give me new iMacs or Mac minis.
