I have worked as a manager on different levels many years in Japan, partly remoty. At home, I enjoyed the 'silence' (less interruptions). However, I appreciated the opinions and ideas received F2F in our office very much. They inspired me and influenced my decisions. Video meetings could not replace F2F! I assume it was the same for our engineers.

@Steven

I am vaccinated, boostered, have a vaccination certificate, am ready to make the PCR tests and wear a mask. But to my acknowledge it is NOT possible to get a tourist visa except if you book a guided tour from one of the few authorized travel agents. So, how to get a tourist visa if not for a guided tour???

It is the Japanese government which decide on own immigration procedures. Fair enough. But other countries should apply reciprocal procedures for Japanese citizens.

Posted in: Tokyo Olympics draw to a close See in context

In Europe, many athletes express their gratitude to their hosts, in particular the volunteers, that they could live their life dream at the Olympics despite the Corona pandemic. Having lived for many years in Japan I am disappointed by many notoriously negative comments in this forum. I have enjoyed the broadcasting from Tokyo & Enoshima AND the closing ceremony.

Thank you, Japan!

AZ has a pretty good efficiency in particular keeping hospitalization rates very low. For those rejecting AZ, please do not whine about short vaccine supply.

In order to prevent fraud, vaccine certificates with passport number make sense. Every country should apply reciprocal entry regulations for inoculated travellers.

Welcome (back) to the club, Japan. Because of the ongoing shortage of vaccines, company doctors in Europe only get homeopathic numbers of doses...

Posted in: EU leaders express support for Tokyo Olympics See in context

There is a shortage of vaccines in Europe. Nevertheless, nearly 50% of the production is exported while the majority is still waiting for the first jab. But in this forum, the export of vaccines is a no-win situation for the EU. If they do, it is not ok, if they don't, it is also not ok.

A solution only to a limited extent. Dogs can only sniff for 30 minutes because it is very exhausting for them. Afterwards they need a longer break.

Posted in: Japan's vaccination rate lowest in G7: Here's why See in context

The vaccine procurement will remain difficult for some months, but at least the necessary logistics can be provided quickly. I do not assume that Japan will allow drive-through vaccination, but they can build up vaccination centers in public buildings or gyms. The government should supply vaccines to these vaccination centers, hospitals, bigger companies and to pharmacies. From the pharmacies the vaccines can be distributed to (private) clinics for vaccination. The medical systems of the bigger companies are already established. Retired doctors and nurses, other volunteers and military staff can run the vaccination centers which are admittingly pretty expensive. But the hospitals, clinics and pharmacies want to earn money, they will more and more take over from the vaccination centers.

Posted in: Japan trails world in COVID vaccine rollout 2 months after its start See in context

I wonder why JT repeats writing that EU export controls are partly responsible for the vaccine shortage in Japan. No exports to Japan have been blocked by now. For instance, as of March 25, 164 mio doses have been produced in the EU, thereof 77 mio doses have been exported, mainly to UK, Canada and Japan.

I sympathize with those who complain about the re-entry ban for foreign residents in order to limit the spread of the Corona visus. However, in European countries it can be seen that foreigners are less disciplined regarding Corona precautions than locals, including not observing quarantine rules.
