And 6 year olds have cell phones nowadays?
you just answered your own question, phones are a device that kids can use if they're lost, or if parents are gonna be late or whatever
anything can happen, even in Japan nowadays

"The new tour promises to be bigger than ever, and Avril Lavigne is slated not only to sing, but to play guitar, piano and drums as well. The album, The Best Damn Thing, released in April of 2007, debuted at number one in the United States."
I just googled that for you. It wasn't that difficult, really...

High points: Canadian Simon Whitfield getting the silver in the men's triathalon. Japan softball downing the USA. Japanese men going medal-less in baseball. USA 4 x 100 men's AND women's teams with the MASSIVE choke-jobs.
Low points: having to watch the olympics on Japanese tv, where all they show are the Japanese athletes (98% of the time) and NO BASKETBALL shown on basic cable tv, what an absolute FARCE!!!!!!!

This doesn't surprise me either. a lot of sick things occur in Canada, despite what some posters in here would like to believe, and are clearly in denial.

agree with you guys. I'm not from the UK, but saving major dough from not having to own a car (company pays for train commuting) and all that goes along with it: insurance, repairs, maintenance, soaring gas prices etc, getting taxed WAY LESS, etc.

this is pathetic, when do you ever give it a rest? constantly trying to make Japan look bad. Why don't you end it with "the world" or add Canada as well, since that's where you're from. A LOT worse things happen over there.

like usaronin said, the woman was cheating on him, he saw red, was in shock etc. I live in Saitama (over 4 years), love the place, I go for regular bike rides around saitama and sometimes down to tokyo, and have NEVER witnessed any crime (except for those hot-rods on their motorbikes who speed through red light, whom I've chased down and confronted), although I've def'y seen my share of nutbags and bad drivers, and even WORSE BIKE-RIDERS. Everytime I go riding it's like a death-trap. VERY defensive riding even though I pick up some high speed and ride a lot of the major roads. I see a lot of cops with their chests held high while standing outside their Kobans, but rarely see any action being taken towards all the driving offenses. I was surprised however to see a seatbelt trap once around a corner in Kuki, they busted a woman with her mother (ba-chan) holding their baby in her arms in the front seat (no seatbelts either, hahaha).

by smithinjapan: No matter what, a driver takes at least part of the blame in any accident. It doesn't even matter if they're stopped and waiting at a light and someone rear-ends them -- insurance companies take at least 5% of the blame.
Anyway, waste of a life. Poor guy should have just tried to realize there are plenty of fish in the sea, hard as that can be to realize. And man... lying there waiting for a car to hit you... sheesh.
thank you once again for summing everything up so perfectly, why should anyone ever need to comment?

i agree with hughgarse and others, if all he was doing was just looking up as he was walking up the stairs, it should be ok. He was probably hanging around at the bottom of the stairs on a regular basis, and received complaints or something. It's impossible to be arrested for simply looking up a gals skirt while walking up the stairs.

Actually there are quite a few women of various nationalities who travel to foreign lands alone
the fact that more than one women does it means it's ok is a "rather silly" notion.
it's rather silly to accuse the victiom of naivety in travelling alone in the United States
really now, are you saying that certain places aren't more dangerous than others for foreign women (or any women for that matter) to be all by themselves? Or that it's ok for women to be off galavanting anywhere they please and there is no possibility for them to run into a mentally disturbed person when there's no one around to offer help? Would you let your mother/sister/daughter do that trip on her own? Seems like this women isn't the only naive person out there.
Like Molenir stated with his fantastic description, this area is def'y out there. Sounds like some places are quite dangerous as far as the risk of physical danger is concernd. This person was def'y not smart to go there alone.

No evidence at all she was naive.
hahaha, you're kidding right? "She was reported missing a day after she went hiking on the remote Havasupai Indian reservation."
all alone hiking in a remote area in a foreign country, naivity at its finest.

Most teens? My son is 17 and does not plan mass murder, nor jokes about it on the internet. Nor does any other 17 year old I know.
I said most teens crave attention, not print sick jokes. And i doubt there was any serious planning like you stated. And of course most teens don't go to this extreme, but do/have done things to garnish attention. Regarding your son, my sincerest congratulations, how proud you must be.

Laugh all you want. If you think no students have killed each other or others in this country, it just goes to show how little you read the news.
u could read news in the safest countries in the world (hey, japan is one of em too!) and you'll STILL read horror stories everyday. The "overprotective parent" syndrome is in full effect with the readers of Japantoday, most of whom are pessimistic foreigners.

The girl was either very foolish or serious.
most of u don't understand teenagers and have forgotten what it's like to be one. This girl just wanted attention, like most teens, pure and simple.

omar:
i dont think is acceptable talk about a teenager as a "comodity",
sigh again you miss the point. If a teenager decides to sell herself, then she is a commodity, whether or not you deem it "unacceptable."
Finally, if i said fantasize... "Of course many people fatasize, and being totally honest i could include myself..."
you did, there it is in black & white.
so if you are interested in my sexual life
not at all, you're the one who put it out there.
so i dont need in any way look for a young girl, as many people and maybe you do
nice try, don't try to turn the tables on me pal.

omarbabilon: i KNOW it's morally wrong to sleep with high schools girls, at least in THIS society. In others, like in Africa, girls are married off when they reach puberty. My point was, that it's a lot harder to find sweet 16 year-olds to sleep with, the reason why they're a higher commodity. it's all about what the demand of the shopper is, and high school girls happen to be in HIGH DEMAND, whether you like it (and i suspect you do, since you admitted to it) or not.

30000 for a 16 yr old is daylight robbery
is it now? think about it, 16 year-olds are valued here, how many men do u think fantasize about sleeping with high school girls they see on the train with their skirts hiked up near their butt cheeks, tanned legs, etc. This is a hot commodity we're talking about.
