Posted in: Heat wave claims more lives in Japan See in context

I'm going to go outside and lead visitors to the parking lot for more than one hour. I'm really afraid of getting heatstroke, so I purchased umbrella called "higasa" which is used at the hot sunny weather yesterday, and brought another shirt. Until now, "higasa" is not widely taken root in male workers, therefore I'll be a pioneer in this circumstance.

Posted in: Do robots and AI lead to more job creation than they destroy? See in context

If they become highly sophisticated to deal with any troubles or unpredicted incidents, the number of our jobs might decrease, but I don't think these AI and robots will be like that for a long while, so I'm not too afraid of some jobs being taken place now and in a few dacades.

Posted in: Why do you think drinks containing tapioca have become the latest rage in Japan, especially among young women? See in context

Mostly, I think, because of its rice cake like texture with no taste. That's why tapioka perfectly matches any drinks. Badically, rice cake like texture used as in "mochi-mochi, " is widely prefered by Japanese, especially the young.

Posted in: How have you found the service at convenience stores staffed by non-Japanese? See in context

In my view, each convenience store needs to employ some staffs from foreign country. Recently, I have watched foreign customers bothering on how to communiate with the Japanese staff members. In terms of the service level, they just need more training.

Posted in: Do you ever worry that robots or AI will become so powerful one day that they will destroy humans? Or does that only happen in movies? See in context

I don't think they will destroy our life, unless we demand anything entirely for them. The robot or AI is just a tool which improves our daily life. Robot or AI should not take over our jobs completely because working hard for them improves our creativity and humanity, so our life will be improved more if we combine our good point with theirs. Therefore, we need live together controling robot or AI.

Posted in: What do you think of sports stars who shriek, grunt or yell out during play? See in context

I don't care them at all. It's natural thing that you brace yourself to do something. Moreover, in badminton play for example, you are able to smash more strongly when you yell at the impact than do not. However, I don't think it good to say something violent for the other players or audiences. That's the manner.

Posted in: What do you think of school uniform dress codes in Japan? See in context

I don't care about the dress codes too much. But one thing I want to state is that the dress codes are oldfashioned. One example is that girls are obliged to wear skirt instead pants, whereas boys have to wear pants instead of the shorter one. By the way, I still haven't been convinced that a lot of schools have harsh rules for hairstyle, especially againt boys. What do you think? I'd like to talk about that matter in the next time.

Posted in: March 11, 2011: What are your memories of that day? See in context

A dark night as if everyboby desappeared. When that disaster occured, I was a high school student. It took two more hours to get home than usual due to the power failure. When I got to my home towm, I couldn't say anything at that moment because no persons and no cars are on the street. No sounds can hear. I felt as if I were in the town in ruins. Then fear and anxiety came in my mind. I'll never forget what I saw, hear and felt.

Posted in: A dispute between convenience store chain 7-Eleven Japan and one of its franchise stores in Higashiosaka, Osaka Prefecture, which closes between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. after ending its 24-hour service on Feb 1 due to a staff shortage, has brought the industry's 24-hour service into the spotlight. Do you think convenience stores need to be open 24 hours a day? See in context

Not necessarily, I think.

I have worked at a convenience store when I was in a university. As a store clerk, I don't think it is necessary for all convenience stores to be open 24 hours a day. At my former workplace, there were few customers I dealt with after 10:00 p.m. This means foods and drinks get expired and are throw away as wastes.

However, some stores need to be open until the last train services are completely ended.

Thus the headquarter should allocate the right to choose the policy of the time of operation depending on the situation.

Posted in: For train fans: What is the most enjoyable train ride you have ever taken? Where did you go to and what sort of train was it? See in context

I'm Japanese. The most enjoyable train ride I've ever taken is every commuter train which connects rural areas with metropolitan areas, especially Tokyo. In particular, the Keiyo line which connects Chiba prefecture with Tokyo is the best. The Keiyo line is one of lines operated be JR east Co. It departs from Soga station, which is not so urban area compared to Chiba city, to Tokyo, which is the center of Japan. The route of the Keiyo line runs along the Tokyo Bay, so you can enjoy the beautiful views of Yokyo waterfront district. Moreover, what I enjoy the most is the changes of the views from rural residential area to urban area. This gaps is someting enjoyable. Once you have an opportunity to visit Japan, I highly recommend you to use this route. But be careful, due to the location, trains are easily affected by the wind from the sea, so we often find them delayed.

Posted in: How should teachers deal with young children who come to live in Japan without being able to speak Japanese? See in context

Firstly, not only teachers but also each and everyone of us should change our thinking. For example, we have to deal with them as one child, not as a foreigner.

Second, the government need to reduce the teachers workload so that they have enough time to prepare for the problem.

Finally, our community as well as teachers need to support them.

So, We should think about this probblem, instead of giving a pressure to teachers to deal with.

Posted in: Backpack-wearing train users in rush hour have been ranked as the biggest annoyance among commuters, according to the results of a survey released by Japan Private Railway Association in Tokyo. What do you think about that? See in context

Sometimes it is unavoidable to for commuters, especially business persons and students, to carry a lot of things in their bag. In this case, we have to be generous to it. On the other hand people who wear a large backpack, especially travellers, have to be conscious of this problelm. They can avoid getting crowded train or use limited express. In this way, each of us have to be careful not to bother other passengers around us.

Focusing on Tokyo and areas around there, yes. Unfortunately, I don't think the local governments are planing to promote more barrier-free on public facilities and others. Because they will not be able to benefit from the Olympic held on the metroplitan area.

Posted in: Under the current labor system in Japan, companies are required to keep employees who wish to continue working after retirement age until at least the age of 65. The government wishes to raise the ceiling to 70. Do you think that is a good idea? See in context

I don't think so. i would rather ask the government that "do you think people more than 70 years old have lower risk of driving large truck or operating airplanes?" Ministers are just sitting and sleeping in a meeting, so they can work there until 70 years old.
