As a new father, I'm now officially choked up.

Probably not. That said, I'd happily kill a pig if it meant I could walk on my own again.

Posted in: A heads-on look at Sony's virtual reality goggles See in context

So they're supposed to be tied to the Playstation. What a pity, if they opened it up to the PC market, they could possibly knock Oculus right out of the water. Personally I'm rooting for OR but if Sony comes up with something equal for a lower price or perhaps better, I'd be VERY interested.

Frungy, so you think the spokesman doing the demo did it with this Xbox for the first time during the presentation... I highly doubt that.

@Ranger_Miffy2 "shoot the engine block" and do what? "...shoot the tires" and make her even less in control of a 1/4 ton projectile? Cmon, really? This isn't a movie.

@cornbread1 are you commenting about a different story...? Having a child at 31 hardly makes her a child or even young for that matter.

Posted in: Modeling in Japan 101: Watch out for Guy With Camera (GWC) See in context

This is why I let models come to me and not the other way around. I worked quite a few event shoots around Tokyo as well and some of the co-shooters were GWCs, one even got banned for shooting nothing but upskirts at a fashion show.

Use facebook and if you've never heard of the photog, ask. Odds are if he or she is legit, others will know them, the foreign community isn't all that big when it comes to this sorta thing. For mine examples, feel free to search up Pozland on FB or Google to see a basic bare minimum of what you should be looking for.

Posted in: Modeling in Japan 101: Submitting to agents See in context

Putting together a good portfolio is something that a LOT of people overlook. A lot of people seem to think that you need to go to several photographers and spend upwards of 100,000 yen to get a decent portfolio when that's simply not the case. A good photographer with a studio or even a natural outdoor setting can do wonders. I take care of a couple/few portfolios per month and no two photos are ever even remotely similar.

Posted in: 43 killed, 100 injured in Turkey car bombings near Syria border See in context

I agree with you, Hunter. I went from Egypt to Turkey and was amazed at just how different the two countries and cultures were even though they followed (for the most part) the same belief system. While Egyptian people were quite often rude and we encountered more than enough thieves and belligerent jerks to last a life-time, the people or Turkey were gratious, kind and always greeted everyone with a smile. I really hope the bloodshed can stay in the countries that are being run by the jerks that crave it.

BertieWooster: just so I'm clear on what you said, "hundreds of thousands killed"... And those 200,000+ were murdered by the hands of American soldiers? I'm not from 'murica but I DO find your figures somewhat of an embellishment.

Used a few rigs like this. @SimondB: Yep they certainly will. You can have two or three grown men yanking on them and the first thing to come off will be the hood of the car.

I am -SO- going to be buying some of that milk! Nothing like finishing a bowl of cereal only to be left with fruity (or chocolatey) milk at the bottom of the bowl. Double Yum!!!!

Posted in: Hiroshima to finally get a Costco - too bad you have to pay Y3,000 for parking See in context

@kringis: at the West Tokyo location, it's always crammed and busy. When we take a car, we always, ALWAYS need to wait for a parking spot, same goes for the Misato/Chiba location. Seems COSTCO is more popular here in Japan than 'in your country.'

@Saulo: might be, but I'm a bit worried about this. I had hay fever for the first time EVER last year after 5 years in JP. If it's actually 5-6 times more than last year, I'm going to be a watery sneezing mess.
