For those saying that no Toyota has killed anyone... Are you serious? The malfunctions on the accelerator pedal lead to dozens of kills in the USA, and according to multiple records, Toyota officials were aware of the problem and tried to hide the magnitude of it, blaming the floor mat for everything.
And yes, the secretive Japanese corporate culture is to blame.
And regarding the reputation, Toyota will never get it reputation back, trust me. Even in Europe where the problem is nonexistent EVERYONE is talking about it, I mean everyone. And as far quality goes, I prefer 100 times a BMW or Mercedes instead of a Toyota. In Europe Lexus is almost inexistent. Regards.
