Hahaha this fight is over, the countries that have the weapons wont be part of this deal :) The day the US gives up nukes is the day we have something even better than a nuke :)

So what if other countries allow immigrants. If Japan doesnt want to let in refugees its there God given right. The way I see it, they are doing the best thing possible for their people. There is a reason these people suffer in their 3rd world country, their culture is a failure and should be allowed to wither away, no need to allow it spread and put roots down elsewere. I applaud you Japan, continue to do the best possible for the Japanese citizens sake.

I don't trust or respect either of these two clowns. My vote is going to Gary Johnson. Don't know who Gary Johnson is? Google him and you will see why the Commission on Presidential Debates is doing a good job to keeping him out. Why are they so scared of him to not want to let him debate? Are they afraid he will break the republican/democrat two-party system?

"There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution." - John Adams

@fre okin - your comment made me laugh.... do you know what THAAD stands for? Terminal HIGH ALTITUDE area defense so yeah, it was not made for low altitude targets low the ones you claim defeat the system. The system was not made for those, other systems which the koreans have are made for low altitude. chinese microprocessors? if anything you should call them us or european microprocessors since the chinese steal everything and cant create any technology. the best warplanes china had are cheap copies of russian and us planes. if the chinese could really defeat the system then they wouldn't be so scared of it and continue to complain the deployment in korea. dont be scared, its an area defense systen, its not made to strike china so relax.

I don't think the issue is the women are the leads, the issue is they took a well established franchise and completely remake it and then to try to milk the crap out of it use an all-female cast. I think if they would have stuck with following the story's lore then they could have added some females (like 3 dudes and 2 girls or 2 dudes and 3 girls) so it doesn't feel like a gimmick and still have a female lead. All female-leads is a gimmick and fans don't like it.

I agree, Japan made the correct choice. I believe the govt should help but depends on the situation. This dude went knowing full well it was not safe. He rolled the dice and lost, he only he is responsible for what happens to him.

Its better to sacrifice the one for the greater good of the rest. Hopefully other media folks see this and learn to stay out. No tears shed here.

Posted in: Would you like to see a referendum held on Okinawa so that Okinawans themselves can decide whether or not they wish to host U.S. military bases? See in context

I think the bases in Okinawa should keep all the service members on base and not allow them out. Make it a 1-2 year assignment rotation, no families allowed just the service members, make it a 'hardship" base since they are stuck there and pay them extra incentive pay, have 2 flights on a daily basis to mainland Japan free to service members since Okinawa is really not japan (more of a joke) and the service member can use their incentive pay in real Japan, fire all the Japanese nationals from base to reduce any possible incidents with the outside community (to make up for the lose in jobs, increase the number of Japanese nationals on the mainland bases). So the Okinawa bar and car scene will take a hit but that's ok I guess the island has tourism of sorts to keep them afloat and no chance of any drunk drivers from base. Win-win for everyone

If this is what Japan likes, let them have it. This is probably why Japan doesn't have any world famous singer/band. I think being world famous brings in more cash than just an otaku base, but that's just what I think.

The social obligation is to learn how to be a nail that doesn't stick out or suffer getting hammered down. Observing their school system is interesting, I think a lot of the stuff they teach is good but they fail in setting up the students socially. Their school system does a great job taking out the individualism for the drone mentality. IMO due to this system there is a large numbers of Japanese students committing suicides, they were sticking out and got hammered a lot.

Posted in: Japan agrees to raise host-nation spending for U.S. military See in context

I find it amusing how people have their theories that Japan does everything the US asks. I can tell they have either no connection to a US military facility and talk out of their arse like they know whats going on, or if they did have access to one it is very obvious they are not part of the "in the know" group.

I assume some people think all this money is going into the bases gold coffers? Man, you guys are way off the mark. Do you have any idea how many local nationals the base hires for the various functions to keep the base running? The US could do like China and hire all the workers from stateside but no, lets create some jobs for the community instead. All the money the US gets from Japan goes to hire Japanese nationals to do a job on the base, and they get paid at US rates not Japanese (women get paid the same as men for the same job!!! what a concept) and the job does not force them to stay overtime and do mandatory fun (nomikai). The money earned by the locals then gets used outside of base and all this money Japan infused is flushed around the community. That's not including the pitiful wages service members make but they still spend it out in town. I have yet to see a low ranking member roll around a base in a new luxury car, at best they have a 10 year old bucket to move around in.

I have met many Japanese who have tried on multiple times to compete for a spot to work on a base, be it a cleaning lady or a commanders secretary. Cant fault them for wanting to be paid and treated like a human instead of a machine. Why so many haters want to take their livelihood is beyond me, actually no its not, just a lot of ignorant sheep who think they know whats going on and whats best for Japan. If you really had a clue you wouldn't be an armchair politician ranting about how thej-gov has no clue what its doing.

Hai hai you pay taxes, all pay that for the govt to give you services such as protection from other countries, how it does that is the govt's business not yours. Be a good little sheep and keep eating your grass.

To criticize a child doesn't help them at all, you make them weak and resentful and make them withdraw and cut the bridge between them and yourself. I believe as long as a parent encourages and reminds a child they are loved and supported then the child will have the strength and courage to deal with bullies. the child will feel they have the needed back-up and would be willing to confide in the parent. Resiliency should be paramount to give to a child, if they don't know how to handle school age bulling how will they handle these issues as an adult.

@Jimizo & yamanashi - I am just putting the warning out there, people need to be focused with facts not hearsay of what someone said in a book or belief the Japanese would have surrendered without the use of bombs. All these conspiracy theories are un-needed. There are too many clowns here just throwing more fuel on a fire that went out 70 years ago. I find it a waste of time that people are still trying to figure out the morality of what happened in that era. The views of today are not compatible with the views of that time. Has anyone seen a nuke used recently by the US? No? then obviously people in this day and age feel in inappropriate to use now.

Posted in: Japan marks 70th anniversary of Hiroshima atomic bombing See in context

I would advice people to be careful not to be deceived into believing posts some trolls are posting on here. Yes, Japan and the US were at one time enemies and fought each other but in THIS DAY AND AGE the JAPAN/US relationship is one of the strongest in the world.

What I see here are certain "other country" actors "pretending" to be Japanese or Americans and trying to drive a wedge between our two countries by flaming the fires of a past wrongs and nationalism. Nothing would be better for these "certain" countries than to split Japan and the US up. Every Japanese and American I know only had good things to say about each other and envied each others country in different ways, shapes and forms.

The atrocities that happened in this war are history and are of the mindset of that time. Today people have taken the lessons of that war and hopefully taken it to heart so as to not repeat again.

Besides it seems this whole year has been Star Wars themed in Aomori. The giant rice field drawings in Hirosaki this year were also Star Wars themed. I see no lawsuits here.

I believe Japan and South Korea should cut it out with showing their "I'm a victim: displays and statues on US soil. I consider all the things that happened in that war a sad thing but no point in still trying to debate blame or if it was right or wrong to do.

Interesting article, I date plenty of Japanese women and sometimes some of these things pop up in conversation. I remember the first time I was told "when we get married, I will take care of the finances" to which I looked at her and laughed "Are you kidding me?, I work for it so I control it and give you an allowance." she didn't like that much. needless to say we are not married. I guess I should have mentioned to her I value money more than any women. The other thing I told a few other women "Im American so that does not apply to me, If you want to treat me like a push over then find yourself one from the local stock. If you want to be treated equally and on par with me". Also #9 on the prior made me laugh. The first time they met me I made sure establish my Alpha male dominance in the house.

The big take away here is the strong will survive and the weak will fall by the wayside. Korea was weak against Japan and Japan was weak against the US. The victor will write history as he sees fit.

Looking into Korean history, seems everyone has kicked its behind at all stages of its history. :P

@ CH3CHO - 100% agreed

I think the best fix for Japan is to acknowledge that Imperial Japan did evil things. All the blame goes to the government of Imperial Japan. SK and china and Japan can all get together and blame Imperial Japan for all the suffering (did I mention Imperial Japan doesn't exist and current Japan has nothing to do with the atrocities? Thank you A-bomb for eradicating such an evil government.) so its a win-win for everyone! Also SK and China and Japan can sue Imperial Japan via time machine (again, current Japan is not responsible for what Imperial Japan did in WW2)
