Japan does not have an extradition treaty with the Philippines

Although not totally unheard of, odd that these 2 countries generally considered friendly don’t have this.

They’re going to have to think beyond tempura and soba for this to be sustainable. Address the root cause and not the direct cause. Not much they can do about the tracks, space is limited. Something on the lines of scheduling, increased train numbers, longer trains etc. It’s not easy, but what is?

Every country has the right to implement their laws, no doubt. But this particular case is nothing but relaliation and childish behavior by China. A bit of frustration towards the stupids, too who know well there are thousands of ways to get trapped in China. And still take those silly risks for a few hundred (maybe thousand) bucks. Make no mistake. when it comes to matters like these, China is NK in disguise.

Posted in: 20% of emergency calls in 2018 did not require ambulance response: NPA See in context

That statistic just by itself, I don’t find too alarming. What would hurt is if this caused a lot of other legitimate people not to have got an ambulance due to this. Need more data. (Also when a silly person calls 119 to enquire a number of a store, they aren’t actually asking for an ambulance, are they?) The title is therefore, misleading.

Posted in: In Japan, a scramble for new workers disrupts traditional hiring practices See in context

@ Pure Gaijin - Why would anyone ever assume any country is “perfect” before coming there?

Ganbare. Let me clarify. What I meant was not ‘perfect’ in that sense. Of course this is the one country I’d still choose to live in, given so many factors that are indeed genuine.

What I meant was Japan has (to a great extent, rightly so) the image that of a just and fair work culture that may not 100% be living up to that image.

But at the same time I also do understand that treating performers and non performers justly and on basis of merit in dearth of adequate work force is a difficult job.

Of course!! The treatment of performers and non performers as equals HAS to stop!! We are not living in a communist setup. I’ve been surprised (read educated) how my own image of Japanese professionals has changed over the few years I’ve been here. I think before coming to Japan everyone starts with assuming it’s all perfect. And then the education begins.

The guys at Nissan are forgetting Ghosn is a person and Nissan is a brand. Seems to me they’re hurting their own brand image for a futile chase. Of course, all this while hiding behind the establishment.

What’s going on!!! Aren’t people reading/hearing the news and being more careful???

if it’s in JT, it’s surely in the local media. The technology is available to deal with such situations and looks like it needs to be made mandatory before the next kid gets hurt. I won’t be surprised if it was a family car. These have huge blind sectors.

tell that to the thousands who donated. I would’ve too, if I knew. we are quick to categorize people but the conscience of the majority of the people in this world is dynamic. It’s human nature.

I’m usually against capital punishment, so hope he can do a DIY in prison. But he lacks the intellect to either feel sorry or to plan it out. Calculate the money that’ll be saved by wasting him against keeping him alive (he’s young, so could be a while). Give that amount to her family or create a fund.

Posted in: Osaka cuts sister city ties with San Francisco over 'comfort women' statue See in context

My view of the history of this.

What happened to these women, happening: evil

Somewhere down the line, SF and Osaka became sisters: cute

The statues coming up in SF: sad but true, so I’m divided. I think there’s more dilemma than malice, here.

Cutting off ties: unfortunate, but Osaka can just not be seen as letting it be, surely!

Hope: this thing is nipped in the bud.
