Poor smaller shark! But that's nature eh, although one slow death!! Wonder if they had an argument between them on something, so the larger shark lost its appetite due to the argument until hey, bingo! It figured out its revenge plan. Or the larger shark is moody.

“The empire of Japan and Nazi Germany have been portrayed as villains, and in Germany glorifying the Nazis will get a person jailed. We would like to re-investigate the 1993 Kono Statement and Nazi Germany as well, to rehabilitate their good acts and restore their honor."

What good acts and honor?? I just woke up, and I read this, and I already want to go back to sleep because I cannot believe this is happening, and I don't WANT to believe.

Someone needs to educate them, they're too young to embrace this kind of belief, probably are too disenchanted and detached, or maybe think it is cool? :( I cannot listen to the video, but the swastikas and the guy in the uniform sent enough chills down my spine without hearing sounds.

Are there no assistant homeroom teachers or anything like that. Someone who can replace the teacher when need be? She did the right thing. Imagine yourself in her shoes. If you fail that, imagine yourself in her son's shoes!

Oh and yes, honestly, some of the comments imply that she's not a good teacher/she should quit/she should be fired for missing an..entrance ceremony??

You can never categorized people just like "nerds" or "geeks", the world is made up of individuals. Each and every individual has pros and cons to being dated! I hate categorizations, if you like games, you're a geek, if you like anime, you're an otaku, if you like Japan, you're wapanese, if you like to study, you're a nerd...it seems only if you like partying, and getting drunk, you're considered 'normal' in my country, or that's what I understood.

@Reckless- haha no, I am too reckless to be followed :P But I'm guilty of leaving my previous 2 jobs because I didn't have enough time for myself or for my family. During my first job, I worked 12hr shifts and my second job I worked 40hrs/week but took me hours to arrive home because I travel by bus and especially on summer I'd be stranded at the bus stop for an hour, waiting for a bus which isn't full up (I'm claustrophobic)..ended up walking it many times haha. Probably, my ideal job would be to be my own boss.

Why does the article come across like Japanese older generations oppose any kind of change? Kudos to those people who have the guts to break away from the 'norms' and actually be individualistic! That's how I feel that societies move forward!

People don't live to work! Ugh

I might be biased because I come from a southern European country but honestly, I wouldn't survive a Japanese company, I'd go crazy.

I have a Japanese friend who lives only to work, we clash so much!! I come across as lazy for him, and to me he over-works. I think 40hrs/week is sometimes too much already when it takes you 2hrs to go back home!!

@James Dean Jnr. - He is!!! I have to admit, he's one of those guys who make me slur! (they're few and far in between haha). He's firstly a great actor though, I love his roles. I cannot imagine ever taking a photo with Abe Hiroshi...I'd be tomato red >_<!!

@lostrune2 ( Hmmm, I fear I came across as still in bereavement to you..ugh. It has been 12 years, and it was during a period in which I had absolutely 0 friends and was bullied by the whole class. It was a terrible time for bereavement to kick in. The experience made me stronger.

I do use the experience especially with kids who are around that age and also lose their dads or their dads just disappear from the scene, you know. It makes them (some of them at least) realize that there is no reason to panic and freak out, because no, they're not alone, life still goes on and they can still make their dreams come true. It does mean one has to work harder towards them, but it is a challenge, not a "mission failed" thing. It is some little kind of reassurance, something one really needs in life. I also make it a point to be true to themselves, always. )

You puzzled me, but whatever. (...okay, you touched a pretty sensitive spot there.)

lostrune2- my dad?? Hmm, it was an observation, usually because I find Japanese men my age too effeminate, I find older men as sexier, that's all. I guess it was a literal translation of a saying in my language.

I don't know where you saw my father in what I said, I just said men old enough that could loosely be my fathers (40+ i.e.) I find for example, Abe Hiroshi to be very sexy.

And "always"? I mentioned my dad last on Mar 3 on a post about suicide because of a personal experience (you made me check). It seems I've been a pain in the leg for you or something? Hmm, I lost my dad when I was a kid, i.e. my dad died. Does this answer your question in detail enough, or would you like to know more?

It has absolutely no relevance and I'm not sure it will even be posted in here. I also find your post pretty rude, but this is the internet.

Posted in: Mistakes managers need to avoid when dealing with newly hired employees See in context

I will just say one thing: Managers are human too! The company I worked at had a manager who took interest (in a good way) in employee's life, in that way it was more of a friendship than boss-employee relation.

It took me a long time though to understand this and he would complain about me mistrusting anybody (by rule, I never EVER make friends in the office, most people are just waiting for a sign of weakness to wash the floor with you). When I told him this, he told me to chill and experience the office a bit. (Not the type of boss who would scream at you, he would just call you in the office and gently explain what you did wrong, at least with me!)

I quit some time later because honestly, I'm not good with working in a group, I'm too much of an introvert. I remember that my lovely office colleagues just assumed I was pregnant, because ofc, if a girl quits, she is pregnant. I fumed so much over it that my manager had made a formal apology in the name of the office!

Posted in: Do you think suicide is an honorable way to atone for a crime or scandal? See in context

Suicide is not honorable, a person who is pondering suicide needs help and sometimes needs to have someone make him realize that facing the dreaded demons is in the long run better than just ending it. Suicide is usually seen as an option by someone when hope is no longer present, so what one needs to back that off is hope. If a person is severely depressed though, hope might not be around, so one has gotta help that person see hope even in the darkest of pits.

When I was younger, I once considered suicide myself. I had no friends, all my class and its teachers bullied me, my father was dying and my mother was too busy to notice me. I only saw that as the way out, until an uncle came around and made me realize how egoistic I would be, he guilt tripped me badly and made me realize that by sticking around and just lying low I could survive this, and well..he was right, but I had to become so much stronger and that's what was scaring the living demons out of me in reality, enough strength to grow up when you don't have faith in yourself is a mountain chain. Trying to build faith and hope when people around you have none for you is also difficult, very difficult and that's why I say, please seek help!

Personally I see suicide attempts as calls for help, calls for attention- the very last try. It can also be vengeful, don't wanna go in detail but imagine if someone kills himself in response to an act someone does for him and actually leaves a note stating that as the reason? I'd probably go crazy.

What suicide is NOT, is a laughable thing. I've gone to a suicidal funeral who was at university and her classmates just laughed at her 'cowardice', after giving her hell for being 'weird', they only blamed her..must be nice to live oblivious to the pain around oneself.

It is also not an honorable thing: what's honorable in making your family pay for what you did? Nothing! What is making people live with remorse and without an explanations from you, unable to realize why you acted like that forever? There are periods in life where everything is very gloomy and dark, but wait up, and if you did something wrong be a man/woman and face responsibility properly. If you were strong enough to hurt people, be strong enough to face responsibility.

Posted in: 'Joshi' or 'josei' - At what age does a 'girl' become a 'woman?' See in context

Depends, is it biologically, emotionally or psychologically? I'm 23 years old: people call me a little girl when I achieve something great (as in: "don't feel too proud, little girl." , but a woman if I do something wrong.: "shame on you! You're a woman now!" soooo I think the different terms are a commodity!

Alcohol rub on hands after commuting/ touching door handles etc.. and most sickness will be avoided! I admit I end up not touching food or anything before I wash my hands well after commuting ^^;..that's what you get after studying infection control heh ^^;

.... Great, guy who has no idea what sports is all about and to me seems to only care about how great Japan fares has no right to criticize a woman that has tried her best. When someone falls, you gotta encourage them to go further, both physically and psychologically. The way he acted is terrible.
