Goto Hospital starts again.

I think most people don't care if tobacco price increased. But food? Why? I mean, Japanese salaries are pathetic in the first place. Do they want people to live on onion and bread?

Japan is so obsessed about "equality". They think that everyone should earn the same income, live in similar apartments, dress the same, etc.
It is natural that people with better skills to earn more. But they don't get that. They think than an engineer with a masters degree and two patents and several publications should get the same salary when he graduates as someone with a degree in sociology and never attended a class at university.
If you want to do something useful, do something to increase the average income and reward those who deserve it. Not make everyone "equal" by underpaying skilled workers and increasong the minimum wage by 4 yen (not a joke unfortunately).
The percentage of people who earn more than ¥10M in Japan is less than 4%. You see how bad salaries are in Japan?

Unlike the US where they do protest, and aren’t good at following rules even if they do make sense.
Better than blindly following irrational rules. Japanese people worship rules to the point that they don't use their brains.
I left as couldn't take the no sense and discrimination any longer and as soon as I landed in Europe, my mental state improved, instantly. It was as if I had entered a purifying shower and exiting it, left behind all the scores accumulated in 15 months during which I was, literally at times, prevented to move freely in and out of the country
Good for you. Can't wait to leave this island as well and never come back again. The worst mistake in my life.

"Awaiting protests from Japanese public."
They don't protest. They're only good at following rules, even if they don't make sense.

I hear from "a friend" that after time spent in airport quarantine, you are released at the airport. Nobody checks how you return home after that. "My friend" sent his bag by courier and boarded the train as per normal. "My friend" is not usually a rule breaker but make exceptions for illogical, pointless rules like this one.
Respect to that "friend".

So you take a PCR test before departure and fill out some forms with very stringent standards, then you take another PCR test after arrival, and you;re vaccinated, but you still have to quarantine for 10 days,
Unfortunately, Japan is always slow and does not seem like a developed country.

Isn't the drama about the Olympics over yet?
Really? Asking people if they want the Olympics to be held again in the future? Like, after 60 years, when most of them will be dead anyways?

"That's when I finally decided to move. I've been here for 6 months now and it's better than I could have ever hoped."
You're still in the honeymoon. Wait for a few years to see the full picture, then you'll regret.

"Work contracts are are supposed to be genderless. In this case scenario the 24.5% reduced pay, is defined to be equal work within the contract."
Have you ever seen a contract in a Japanese company where for two applicants with equal qualifications the female applicant gets 24% less pay?
people keep saying "pay gap", as if the pay is only determined by gender. While in reality there are many factors that cause this difference.

"If your daughter, mother, aunt got payed 24.5% less than their male counterpart, you would probably say, meh thats life."
If their male coworkers work 80 hours overtime every month and work on weekends and they don't, then I:d say that's fair.

We've been hearing about "China's rise" for many years.
The truth is, Japan is jealous of China because they're doing much better, economy wise, than Japan. Every few months we hear about another Japanese firm going bankrupt.
You have lost, Japan. Admit it.

Yeah let's care more about fancy names than actually doing something useful.

I don't care who the next PM is going to be as long as he gives me another ￥100,000 .

Probably they expired while sitting on the shelves waiting for the endless meetings to end and the decision to be made.

So all the nonsense they have been saying since one year ago about "holding the Olympics is a victory against the virus" turned out to be...nonsense. Japan was too late to start vaccination, they didn't bother to develop their own vaccine, life isn't back to "normal" yet, and coming back to Japan is still a complicated process.
I can't see any "victory", not in Japan at least.

Did they hold a meeting to discuss this issue?
Clearly not. Otherwise there would've been no issue in the first place.

Doesn't matter to me whether they lift it or not. I try to be careful not to get sick in Japan because I really don't want to put my health in the hands of a Japanese doctor. Has anyone with a serious health condition been to a hospital in Japan? Totally incompetent doctors. All they're good at is saying "there's nothing wrong, here's some medicine anyway". They don't even know what kind of tests to do, you have to tell them.

"When pressed on whether he really thought women talked too much, he said: "I don't listen to women that much lately, so I don't know"
lol best comment ever! Same here.

In my company we have the same experience. Two ladies keep talking and waste our time. So we learned that we have to ignore them.

"Why are so many of the men here trying desperately to prove Mori is correct, as if that in any way would justify the comment he made?"
You are absolutely right. It doesn't matter which gender speaks more, his comment is based on his own experience.
Perhaps women that attend meetings with him keep talking about unimportant things and distract others and waste their time. I think that's what he meant, and it is not sexist at all.

Go Mori go don't listen to the unsophisticated. All smart people support freedom of expression.

I didn't register but now I want to, after Mori:s comment.

"There are several studies showing that men talk more than women. Here are the top 3 results on Google when it comes to studies on the topic; there are more."
There are even more "studies" that show the opposite. Everyone sees what they want to see.
"He spoke freely, Nobody prevented him in any way from uttering his obnoxious comment.
He's also free to suffer the consequences.
Free speech does not mean free from consequence."
There will be no "consequences". A handful of teenage volunteers resigned. That's all. Just because JT posts an article every day about the same subject does not mean anything.
-4 ( +6 / -10 )
I don't understand why the idea that women talk too much is "archaic".
Does it mean that women used to talk too much in the past but have become more quiet? Has human nature changed recently? I don't think so.
The only difference is that values have changed. Although some people think it is unacceptable today to call women talkative, that does not change the fact that it is still as true as it used to be 100 or 1000 years ago.
