Posted in: 240 kg of new Koshihikari rice stolen in Shiga Prefecture See in context

So 240 kilograms of rice is worth only 90.000 yen? So why does a 10 kg bag cost almost 8000 nowadays?

Wholesale price VS retail price.

If you’re willing to buy at that volume and direct from the source everything is cheaper.

Road safety education should me mandatory.

these scooters, as well as many bicycles, just zoom in and out of traffic, from side walk to street, most of the time without looking or indication.

A lot of the comments here are based on traditional Japan. The youth’s attitude here has been changing and the turn over rate for new graduates (not just because of marriage) has changed significantly in the last decade.

around 30% of those in the picture will be with other companies in 3 years.

Domino’s claims it was after hours and the dough was not used.

how do they know that?

in my eyes they are trying to do damage control by claiming that.

They want people to spend their yen abroad? Keep it in the Japanese economy at this stage. Plus at this moment you would get the least return overseas due to the FX rate.

the US automotive industry made the same claim here that Japan is anticompetitive, but somehow the German manufacturers sell like hotcakes in Japan. Strange.

Posted in: Families moving out of Tokyo to get up to ¥1 mil per child See in context

Schools, infrastructure and jobs. Those are needed first. The average salary in Japan is about 5M and that figure is inflated by Tokyo salaries.

If you move out of Tokyo, your salary will most likely go down.

Education is best in Tokyo so the kids moving out of Tokyo will have less education and future opportunities

why would one move out of Tokyo for those prospects?

Posted in: Japan aims to alleviate overpopulation in Tokyo area by FY2027 See in context

What they don’t get is that people in Japan don’t relocate locally away from their settled home.

many company outside of Tokyo or nearby areas has extreme difficulties.

japanese companies with branch offices send their people there, but their families remain in their settled area, splitting the family.

hence they can incentivize companies to move outside of Tokyo all they want, but those companies will not find willing employees to work there.

10MJPY is 1000 bills

54MJPY is 5400 bills

you can fit that into a large shoulder bag.

Posted in: Mother arrested after 2 children die of heatstroke when left in car See in context

In the summer if you park your car in direct Sun light it’ll take no time to heat it to deadly levels. I parked outside like that for an hour the other day, everything inside was baking to the point that I just turned it on got back out and waited for the AC to cool it off.

i had the foresight to remove my family from the car after parking the car though.
