Not being charged. So, its not illegal to dump 200kg garbage in a public park? Good to know for next time I move and don't want to pay for someone to take away the junk I don't need anymore.

MH17 disaster was beyond the airline’s control

Why do news sources keep saying this? They knowingly flew over a war zone to save money. It was fully in their control and they are absolutely at fault for taking the risk.

Posted in: Sony to launch PlayStation 4 in U.S., Europe first, then Japan on Feb 22 See in context

It makes perfect sense to follow the demand while there isn't sufficient stock globally. Gift giving at Christmas time in Europe and US eclipses Japan. Post Christmas shopping is mostly sale items, so there won't be as much PS4 purchasing going on in January there. However in Japan, February is when most people are flush with bonus cash, not December, giving Sony all of January to manufacture for Japan.

Posted in: Yamanashi, Shizuoka discourage speed climbs of Mt Fuji See in context

Nowhere in this article does it state why climbing Mt. Fuji faster than other people produces more garbage or more traffic or other special difficulties. I would argue the opposite. If anything there is a higher risk of altitude sickness.

Its not like there was a parking lot full of perfectly good cars right after a 20 meter tidal wave wiped out the town. Roads? Hardware stores? Of course stuff was hard to come by, but it could have been handled better with a little emergency preparation.

Mongolia used to own everything from Poland to Korea. They should get China if "since ancient times" is a valid argument for superseding current, legal claims.

Agree w/ ExportExpert, but have you been to the new Wendy's in Omotesando? Not nearly as good as it used to be and now double the price. Their high-end approach was a mistake. Very disappointed.

Unified medical records also lacking. Your data only exists with the doctors you visit and not stored centrally. If you visit a new doctor, they wont know your history so thats how he cleared the checkup without his company knowing. Govn't needs to step up

How old are "Senior Managers" typically? 45? University graduates may be 50/50 Men & Women now but 25 years ago in Japan I'm sure there was educational inequality as well. Even at 50/50, not all degrees are created equal. Engineering, Business, MBA programs need a better balance. Japan Inc is not fully to blame for once.

I'm guessin most of the 70% who want less reliance on nuclear power are also part of the 93% who believe the economy to be in a bad state and none are seeing the connection. You can't fix the economy without cheap power. They are not mutually exclusive. So which do you want, no nuclear power + worsening economy OR nuclear power + stable economy?

Posted in: In Japan, the customer is not king See in context

I remember a time when I was checking in at the airport and my luggage was 2kg over. The attendant was being a super b*tch and wouldnt let me take anything out or pay extra to check it...until I saw her fat leg resting on the scale. oh wait...that was in Canada. Or this time at a restaurant where my food took hours and the waitress was no where to be seen but still demanded a tip...oh wait, that was everywhere I've been in the western world Or the time I didnt look like I was gonna give a tip, the bar maid literally threw my change back at me. I took back the tip I already placed on the bar and left. but, wait that was in Montreal.

How about basing an article about customer service while using examples of Japanese restaurants. McDonalds/Starbucks may be in Japan but they are using the playbook from the U.S. Either way...bad experiences can be found anywhere in the world. What I love, is the lack of tipping. Not because I'm cheap, but because if yell "Sumimasen" in any restaurant in Japan and you get the entire staff scrambling over to your table. With a "TIP" based system all you get are selfish service staff who only attend to "thier" tables (even though they share the pot). Your waiter(ess) is busy or in the crapper and your sh*t outta luck until they come back.
