Posted in: What do you think about all the panic buying of bottled water in Tokyo after reports that radioactive iodine exceeding the limit for infants was found in tap water in some wards? See in context

I personally don't buy large amounts of water. For those with children I can totally understand it though. They should be prioritized now anyways. If it really comes to a serious shortage, I can live with substitutes and save as much bottled water as possible but children and babies absolutely need to have water. So far, while many stores might have sold out, I am confident, that they will get water in quite fast. After all, large areas of Japan are not affected and the infrastructure from there to Tokyo is just fine. Don't worry too much people.

I'm surprised about the selfishness of that last women with the father in law going to sex shops.. How can she suggest he should save his probably hard earned money for the grandchildren. He's not yet dead and should enjoy the rest of his life in whichever manner he wants to.

That just made my day. I'm tired of having to go to Azabu to get acceptable italian ingredients.

Posted in: If "The Cove" is ever shown in cinemas in Japan, will you go to see it, or see it on DVD? If you've already seen it, what did you think of it? See in context

I watched it and I think it is not that bad. Sure, it is very one-sided and sometimes seems more like an action movie but the main message comes across. I don't necessarily mind the killing of dolphins if it was necessary for the food supply or if it just tasted great. Whale meat tastes good, so I don't see why they can't eat those whales that are not endangered. Dolphins are not really endangered at the moment.

What I don't like is that the killing is done in a quite disgusting way, where there should be other ways to do it. Plus, many of the dolphins are just caught to be sold to aquariums around the world, which is something I don't like. The main concern however is the mercury level of such meat. It just can't be healthy in the long-run and I would not want my children to eat dolphin meat. Overall, the movie could be more balanced but it is an insult to the Japanese people to think that they could not judge by themselves. They should show it, whatever happened to freedom of speech?

well, there are still a lot of social tensions in SA and obviously the chance to get publicity during an event like the world cup will attract some protests that could end up violently. I hope it doesn't but like with any other big event, there will always be people who use it to send a message. I loved living there but there are definitely some parts of most cities where caucasians are not well received, quite understandably but not sending female announcers is just over the top.

Probably no female announcers in Brazil then as well... I'd be rather upset if I was a competent female announcers wanting to go but the recent death in Thailand may have made them more sensitive.

she actually looks relatively good i think. even if she didn't, there must be a reason why they hired her in the first place.
