If you react like that, I think you have a problem as well.

@rdinero35

Thanks for your helpful comment. Indeed, both people usually have a problem in bullying situations (I'm not saying is to blame BTW). The people who are bullying because they have a problem with themselves and need to bully someone else just to feel good themselves. The people who are bullied because they are usually emotionally sensitive and it's quite easy to make them cry (which makes the bullier feel they are getting an effect).

Though the article is indeed quite "floating in the air" it has some good points: the meaning of the guy/girl who is bullying really doesn't matter that much for the simple reason that he/she will pick on anyone that looks vulnerable just for feeling better him/herself. He/she will try to throw whatever is necessary at you just to get you down (true or not).

The reaction of the person being bullied to get into martial arts helps of course because the bully can't get his effect and very soon the bullying stops.

Thanks for your humanly post. Indeed, if you haven't cared for your own dementing mother or father you have no idea what you are talking about.

@Gilberto

I am quite sad that every radioactive chemical detected in a place was somewhat always link to "Fukushima". Isn't that unfair?

Nuclear weapon testing can be a source of this phenomenon also and other factors in which science can only explain.

Don't you know guys that strontium 90 can be found in all human beings regardless of age and geographical location?

Sure, but not in those quantities...

@johnnygogogo

@reinaert albrecht Wait... a blog that cites an "independent journalist" who's information you have to pay to access.. and who's translation does not include the source of the information or the location... and you find that a credible source???

First off, this is a journal that's not available online, so you have to pay for it just like any journal or newspaper, not very special here. As to credible sources: you can hardly say that a company and a government that has quite knowingly held back information for months can be qualified as a credible source either...

Of course, this will all be limited to Fukushima prefecture. Strontium has just been discovered in Yokohama (yup, that's about 250km from Fukushima): http://ex-skf.blogspot.com/2011/10/strontium-90-discovered-in-yokohama.html

Thus Japan, which up to now had a debt that was owned by its own people is now going to actively buy into the debt of other countries. While I'm very happy for Europe in this respect, I really wonder what the longterm benefits will be for Japan.

Posted in: Man allegedly beats 70-year-old mother to death See in context

Probably another case of a dementing parent being cared for by their own child. In the end this becomes unbearable and the thing apparently escalates because of not wanting to eat. These articles never tell you what happened before this. My mother cared for her own mother and the last few weeks they simply didn't sleep at all. In that condition all sorts of nasty things can happen. At least in Belgium we had the option to take her to a daycare center. In Japan, most people are financially not able to bear those costs.

The agency explained that to understand airline safety, one needed not only to look at accident figures, but also “technical, human, organizational and external” elements.

Ha, what a joke. Not looking at accident figures skews the figures as well. I don't see why JAL would be so secure. They had quite a lot of accidents and near calls in recent memory. They have their own Wiki-page with incidents and accidents. Compared to i.e. ANA who hasn't had an accident since 1971... I guess this report has been ordered.

Posted in: Nagasaki mayor calls for shift away from nuclear energy See in context

The only truly safe nuclear power is from fusion reactors, but those are still in the experimental stages and scientists have only been able to "maintain" a fusion reaction for no more than a second. If they ever successfully created a sustained fusion reaction, all other forms of power generation would go the way of the wood stove.

The last part of your sentence is the exact reason why it probably doesn't get any decent funding. The nuclear fission industry would be done with and look very awkward.

To all the people who think going nuclear (fission that is) is the solution to all our forthcoming energy problems: if we would go all out nuclear to replace all other sources of energy we would blow the entire stock pile of uranium of the world in no more than 20 years. Maybe you should read http://peakoil.com/production/exploding-the-myth-of-nuclear-energy-security/.

Posted in: The debt crisis: the enigma of Japan See in context

How long will economist hold fast to the idea that growth is necessary? Growth can't be continued indefinitely. Sooner or later you run against the limits (you only have one earth) and then things start to happen. A glance at oil-prices would teach you a lot about the current economic crises. And no, oil price is not inflated. On the contrary, oil is still horribly cheap. You can buy a liter of fuel that's almost as cheap as a liter of water.
