Seems like the authorities need to bust the chikan, and bust them HARD. Then name and shame them if guilt is proved.

Perhaps the little man and his sister running the Hermit Kingdom should realize what would happen to their precious "Communist Paradise" if they tried to follow through on their threat. Yes, it would likely kick in Mutually Assured Destruction, but that pudgy lunatic would not like the results of his foolishness.

Hmmm...I've never heard of this show, but now that I have, maybe I'll check it out (not really, I rarely watch TV these days :)). But ultimately, Mr. Johnson needs to remember that, if he indeed values Free Speech, he needs to remember also that others he may not like have that same 1st Amendment right. And don't go hiding behind your Trumpified version of "Christianity" (more like Trumpianity) with your blatherings. As a Christian and human, I also have the right to be silent on things I clearly know nothing about.

",in America people trash is considered public property,"

Depends on the state and sometimes, even the city. Here in Columbus OH it's illegal for people to go through trash because of the worry of "dumpster diving", i.e. computer hackers looking for information they can exploit. Though to be honest, there are homeless who periodically go through trash to find recyclables they can take to the local recycle lot and make some money. That's why we take our aluminum cans and put them in a separate bag and sit them by the trash, so they can get them without going through our trash.

So he's 49 and she's 30. Big deal. They're both adults, and they look like a nice couple. I expect this kind of headline out of the Nationalmidnightstar, not Japan Today.

"The solution to higher prices is to switch to the cheaper supermarkets.

A little time and effort can be rewarded…"

I don't live in Japan, but do grocery stores use coupons there? Here in Columbus OH I use grocer and product coupons to help pare down expenses. We also look at stores that have comparable products at cheaper prices to save money. Granted, even the Dollar Tree stores have hiked their prices to $1.25. People around here joke they are now Dollar and a Quarter Tree stores.

Some locals are also starting gardens, and we cut down on waste by canning vegetables and potatoes we won't get to right away. Heck, we even pick apples to make our own pectin, and grapes to make homemade jelly!

"She was punished with three days of besshitu toko, “separate-room schooling,” a form of disciplining in Japanese schools where students who have broken a rule must do their day’s schoolwork in a separate room, away from the rest of the class, essentially a form of in-school suspension. She was also made to write an essay reflecting on her transgression."

Call it what it actually is: school-sanctioned humiliation.

This is good. People who love one another (and because of archaic, bigoted laws, can't get married) should be able to do this. Love is love, and if people want to hate same-sex relationships, then they are not worthy of consideration.

I play my Switch Lite in an air-conditioned room, so no problem. Bought it during the pandemic when I was lucky to actually find a Lite...the regular model couldn't be found at all back then.

Posted in: Back from the dead, VHS tapes trigger a new collecting frenzy See in context

I've mostly collected old anime released in the US back in the 1990s; none of the ones I currently have are sealed, so they for the most part aren't worth much, other than the very earliest releases (Gunbuster and Dangaio, both from US Renditions, a subsidiary of Books Nippan, for the most part).

The annoying thing is that these high prices are driven by places like Heritage Auctions and, like the video games are likely investors who bid on these things with the intent on driving the prices up, then auctioning them again to drive prices up even more. Like crypto and NFTs, just a big scam.

Nope. Our family was poor, so our "allowance" for doing chores was called "room and board".

I find it funny how Dictator Putin can laud the Soviet Union's victory against the Nazis (of which the Soviet Union had a whole lot of materiel help from Britain and the US I may add), yet clearly adopting the brutal Nazi methods when going up against the Soviet Union's former allies in WWII.

Complete with false stories about why Russia "had" to fight Ukraine (a "Nazi" threat? PLEEZ).

Guess Dictator Putin will make up any lie he can to excuse his lust for lebensraum.

"No, it's not. You can clearly see almost everywhere where there are vaccinated people that they make up a proportionate amount of deaths. The truth is let out in the article who is actually most affected..."

And according to the CDC, that "proportionate amount" adds up to much less than 1 %.

Good idea to have inexpensive ways to spay/neuter cats. Most of the cats that come to our back yard are strays that come because they were abandoned by their former owners or born on the street. One cat ultimately had three litters in or next to our back yard, until we were able to catch her and have her fixed. As soon as they were old enough, we fixed the kittens that stayed as well.

Fortunately for us, there's an organization here in Columbus OH that does the job for around $40 per cat and will also give them their vaccinations as well. Too many people may also just have the female fixed but ignore the male because "they won't come home pregnant". Just because it won't be your problem, don't mean it won't become the neighborhood's problem.

So this is a problem the airlines have known about for awhile, yet didn't do much about until recently. Hmmm, reminds me of Y2K, where the problem was well-known with tech companies, yet nothing was done until a few years before zero hour.

Figures.

"Never thought I’d see the day Japan needed to receive food aid. Things are bleak."

Back in the day it was worse. My mother, back in the 50s and 60s (she was born in 1933), used to contribute to an organization that specifically sent money to help Japanese children in need. I still have a thank you card one of these children sent to her.
