@BlueWitch Right, in Japan most people (like sheeple anywhere else in the world) trust too much on public services (be it medical services or the government who tells you to stay in your area because you're safe from the Tsunami there, just to be flooded and drowning five minutes later...) but recent history more often than not proves that taking matters into your own hand and trust your instinct is the way to survive.

borscht at 01:13 PM JST - 22nd May Most five-year-olds argue the same way: He did it, too! More mature five-year-olds can come up with a better argument as to why we should tolerate diverse views even if we find them woefully moronic.

Uh oh, the "look he must be a five year old" reply again because "his opinion doesn't reflect with my own". It's a simple fact, borscht that if you lived in China and see the right wings there and then compare that with Japanese right wings you will undoubtedly agree the Japanese ones are nothing to worry about! Go get some more experience in life and then when your naive views have balanced a bit more, then we can talk like adults.

To all those who complain about the few Japanese 'right wings' (if you even can call them like that) ... move to China and experience the Chinese nationalists over there anytime they get Japanese visits or something Japan-related in the news! After that you can come back and then you will realize how harmless and peaceful these Japanese are and you will eventually realize how lucky you are to be here and not in China!

Engrish will become a new major language soon. I already got used to it living Japan since many years. It sounds good, don't deny it!

This is sad, she looked decent. Some people are simply too labile for this world! They don't find true love within some years and off they go. If I was that unstable I had committed suicide 50 times within the last 10 years.

Too many dumb people not understanding that nuclear power is actually the safest and most reliable currently possible power source. I would think Japanese are smarter than that and it seems most of them are but there's always a percentage of dumb people.

Posted in: Do you think sporting, entertainment and cultural events scheduled for the next few weeks should be canceled out of respect for the victims of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami? See in context

It doesn't help anyone if they cancel such events. Instead they should donate some of the income from the events to people hit by the disaster.

Posted in: No more nukes See in context

If nuclear power goes away the second most logical choice replaces it for producing energy: fossil fuels. If they run out (and polluted the air well enough) we're back again to nuclear energy (unless a wonder happened and fusion power has become available in between). Wind mills, solar cells, water dams? Sorry, not going to happen! Way too expensive both in establishing and maintenance plus you need a freaking lot to make up for the power produced by nuclear energy. Nobody is going to cover every free inch of surface of Japan with them either.

Those protesters (both in Japan and elsewhere, i.e. Germany) should switch on their brains for a change and start getting realistic!

EbiChiri at 11:18 AM JST - 26th March How on earth will they ever get up there to get that down ? Where will they put all those destroyed vehicles ? It will take years and years of unrelenting manpower to tackle this herculean task.

No. it will just take a simple crane.

Do you remember Banda Aceh after the tsunami? The destruction was BAD there too. But they have rebuilt. This place will be rebuilt and will be much better than what it was I am sure.

Not so sure if it's a good idea to rebuild in a shallow valley near the coast like these towns were. As we've witnessed not even some dams and floodgates that were supposed to keep up protected from this tsunami. So they might better relocate to some higher grounds if that's even possible.

If there's such a huge bugger of an earthquake and only seconds later a monster tsunami rides in then there's barely any chance that ANYONE will be prepared, no matter how well you prepare yourself. Only solution is not to settle in valleys near the coast but Japan which doesn't have much area because of mountains doesn't have much option there either.

There are really more serious noise pollution troubles in Japan than complaining about a noisy train station! Take the plenty of Hahin Kaishu that drive around your block 5 days a week with yelling loudspeakers turned on! THAT is true aural assault! Don't complain about noise in such public places like train stations! You don't sleep there, do you?!
