Just have HER replicate the procedure and results herself, with an international team of scientists observing, and let's see if she can put her money where her mouth is - shouldn't take more than 30 minutes, right?

Also, for a paper and claim of the magnitude it was, Riken officials should have done their utmost to ensure every word and image of the paper was sound - i.e., they should go down with Ms. Obokata.

samwatters - What society tolerates kidnapping kids?

Every morning when I walk to the station, it never ceases to amaze me how little kids are able to walk to school on their own or with a group of friends. It's actually one of the things I admire the most about Japan, so I hope this case doesn't freak parents out.

Sighclops, the computer and synthesizers are musical instruments. As for musical talent, they are entertainers, not musicians. I play the triangle, henceforth I shall be referred to as a musician.

Strom - they've been to the U.S. and played big stadiums (whether they sold out the stadiums is another story).

Ikkoikki - How would you define music of "much substance"? Does everyone have to sing about war, poverty, teenage angst?

sighclops - There was a boy band called "The Beatles" who rocked. And how dare I compare Big Bang with the Beatles you might be thinking? Well, BB don't rock, they POP.

I'm actually surprised there are that many. Thought it would be less than a 100 for the whole year. I wonder how many it wouldbe if you exclude yakuza-related hits.

Guy's not too bright either (and has questionable fashion sense). A purple turbin? Sure, wear something easily identifiable when committing murder. Then continue wearing the same item afterwards. This guy deserves to be locked away for his pure stupidity.

smithinjapan: talent takes on different forms. A lot of people sing well - a la American Idol, but many of them are, what's the word...boring. KPP = one of a kind, a.k.a. not boring = tons of fans worldwide. There's a difference between just being able to sing and being a superstar. Plus, she's cute as a koala, so checkmate!

Her music is catchy and cool, and yes, she lip-synchs, but who doesn't? Anyone who dances around on stage as much as she does falls back on lip-synching - from Bruno Mars to Madonna. Her thing is more about the performance than the actual singing. Those background dancers she has are a hoot as well.

Make her the official Olympic mascot, I say.

Rain also did a clever skit with Steven Colbert about that Time 100 list. Google it if you have a chance - funny stuff.

The guy's actually got some moves, especially because he's a solo act (like Kyary Pamyu Pamyu). Groups like Kara generation or AKB generation or whatever rely on an army of clones moving and singing in unison.
