Posted in: Biden suggests he may block Nippon Steel deal, seeks to triple tariffs on Chinese steel See in context

Another tax on Americans. That’s who pays for terriffs the Trump and Biden policies of tariffs on Japan and China products have not hurt Japan and China. In fact chinas economy is still growing. Japan is just aging so the economy will continue to decrease. The real impact is on the consumer in America, who is being passed on these tariff prices as the imports continue. Nothing stops. The import are l needed by the business in America. so tariffs are not punishing China or Japan or whoever. They are punishing Americans, and until America wakes up on what tariffs mean the economy will continue to be sluggish and inflation increasing and we’re talking about this on a Japan website. The deal with Japan steel saves the company. There is a two-year retain of employment built into the deal. I have read it will still be under American management. This is all the PR stunt. And it’s not helping America at all. It could be England Italy, France, Japan, China the American protectionism is in full force. History is repeating itself and not in a good way.

Zero in design skills. Probably more focus on cheaply made polyester. The jackets make everyone look fat. These are supposed to be Olympians who care about their image. Who designed them a 90 year old woman sewing in the nursing home?

Posted in: Over 100 hotels in Japan fall victim to Booking.com phishing scams See in context

Seems like it’s not booking.com but hotels employees and email systems that allow any link to be clicked upon by anyone. Hotels demanding booking.com anything is kind of ridiculous even for Japanese. Their own people (the hotels) clicked on a link that provided their credentials to someone else’s. The only think booking.com could do is ip hardwire hotels login but then they will complain its to difficult when their IP addresses change. Really up to hotels to have their system updated with the latest technology to stop apparent clicking on external links.

And companies care more about language stills than IT skills. Not realizing you can hire a person to translate cheaper than a bilingual IT guy who is worth anything. IT are good at IT. Language is a completely different area of study that isn’t related at all.

Japan can’t even figure out how a thermostat works or internet service as it’s all “best effort” or fast cell phone 5g. Fastest I get is 200mg. In Singapore, KL and Jakarta get 1gb or more. Japan had a long way to go. They still use faxes. lol

Posted in: Yen sinks to 153 range against dollar for 1st time in 34 years See in context

dont forget imports are taxed by the government. So the more expensive they are the more the government gets. So it’s up to the government to lower import taxes to offset a yen valued correctly. Glory days are over.

Posted in: Russia says U.S. military presence in Japan impedes any peace treaty with Tokyo See in context

Funny headline. Russia is irrelevant in Japan. Japanese need to get over the islands they lost even though Russians poorly didn’t win and still took them. Russia should have thanked the US. The islands are gone. Japan needs to give them up and move on. Russia should be ignored and tariffed to the sky. Japan doesn’t really need any contact with them.

Sadly the child being out of control of the parent in and around tracks was not a smart decision of the guardian. I feel for the driver who will need to live with that the rest of their life. It really is up to guardians to actually watch out for these things. Let’s hope the grandmother wasn’t on her phone not paying attention to their surroundings like so many people in the city do. Terrible accident they could have been prevented with more care.

Finally. But I’m sure it will not change anything. They still have steps to get to elevators in Japan. There are steps to go into most shops as well. What are these places going to do. Now physically challenged will feel the same “mindokusai” feeling foreigners get when we enter a place seeing it’s a law and can’t be ignored..

When the mafia control the taxi companies (which I suspect) what do you expect. The prices here are insanely expensive and they get paid more for being slow and not knowing where to go. Years back they knew the short cuts and fastest ways to go. Now the longer they can wait the more they get. We need bike rides as wel. Much faster and cheaper.

Sad for the deer. Can only imagine them thinking humans were safe almost like pets and then be shot. Where does the deer meat go? In the states deer jerkey was a staple for Midwest hunters in fall. Does Japan allow hunting in the fall before winter for deer? Wonder what the season is.

Posted in: Yellow sand observed over Tokyo, Osaka See in context

Seeing that ½ the Gobi desert is split nearly equally between Mongolia and China it’s kind of interesting that Japan press releases say China and it’s a natural occurrence unlike smog. Any opportunity to try to talk negatively about China? Perhaps the Chinese in Japan you meet and greet every day are not a true representation of the Chinese people. Most of my Chinese friends in China are doing much better that those who come to Japan to work. They say China’s economy is better and can make more there why their people leave? Anyway back on point the desert is shared pretty much equally and it’s a nature. What’s the issue. You aren’t stopping sand storms.

Then if they need so many why aren’t salaries increasing drastically to recruit people rather than 3rd world county citizens? In addition more focus is often placed on language skills than actual job skills. A way to have near slave wages for a 1st world country by making you think you’re doing wonderful things. Sad to see expansion of abuse of 3rd world countries. Friend from China told me. Japan only gets the Chinese who can’t cut it in China. China’s market and salaries are better than Japans and future growth. Couldn’t argue with the statement.
