Much of the health benefits of red wine come from resveratrol. Resveratrol is concentrated mostly in the skins and seeds of grapes and berries — especially in the skins of red grapes (which is why it is present in red wine).
Resveratrol is a naturally occurring polyphenol. Polyphenols are micronutrients that act as powerful antioxidants — they protect cells from the damage of free radicals and stimulate stem cells to increase their circulation in bone marrow. In doing so polyphenols help fight and prevent digestion problems, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and other health and aging issues.
Thanks to polyphenols such as resveratrol, enjoying an occassional glass of red wine helps to fight aging and contributes to better brain health. Not bad side-benefits of relaxing with some vino!
