I've been to the ceremony and you know what, the deafening noise during the moment of silence is plain disrespectful. Protest all day long all you like, but Jesus, the moment of silence is to respect the dead and bring focus to the moment. Come on! The moment of silence is about peace. And besides, if you've walked through the park on that day, the place is full of people advocating for the end of nuclear weapons and world peace. I was personally approached by a Japanese woman who wanted me as an American to add a flower to a wreath for peace or something. Beautiful. I don't get the protests.
