Also not sure why the Yamabushi comment above is getting thumbed down. Yes that is a Yamabushi mountain monk. We went to Haguro too and stayed at one of the lodges there. You can book them online.

I visited Tsubame Sanjo before with my wife years ago before covid. They have some of the best knives and kitchenware we have ever seen and all for rock bottom prices too. The craftsmen there were really friendly and we did a copper hammering tour with a French woman who lives there.
