How ironic that Kishida will personally apologize to these people but refuses to apologize to the Comfort Women of Korea, Taiwan, etc. Somehow he and former PM’s do not acknowledge the cruelty which Japanese soldiers inflicted on these young women 70+ years ago?!?

The author is correct save for one thing: Japanese workers’ incomes have not kept pace with the cost of living for far longer than 26 months. Since the so called bubble burst in the early 1990’s, corporations have hired more and more part time, temporary employees. These employees make much less money, have fewer benefits, and no job security because their contracts get renewed (or not) every few years. How can they plan to get married, let alone have children when they make significantly less money and do not know if they will be employed or not in a few years?!? The LDP has done nothing about this structural issue because it does not want to upset its powerful corporate donors. Unless/until this problem of economic insecurity is resolved the birth rate will continue to be low.
