Posted in: California's unemployment rate highest in the nation See in context

California has long had the highest percentage of residents on welfare. It has also been providing a plethora of social services, such as health insurance for certain age groups of undocumented migrants. It just opened its health insurance to all low-income undocumented migrants. California welcomes everyone. It attracts more undocumented migrants than any other state. It’s been said that California is a good state to live in if you are very rich, very poor, or very old. For those in the middle, you are getting squeezed to support the rest.

As a Californian, I wish the state wasn't so expensive, but a zillion people are still employed and making a lot of money. Visitors and tourists, alike, seem to be enjoying themselves, the pro sports venues are sold out; the beaches are crowded. At last look, California still has the 8th largest economy in the world. California is, by far, still the greatest state in the nation and in the world, imho.

Posted in: U.S. denies drone strikes break international law See in context

The rest of the World who takes US money/aid and wants access to US needs to realize that there are certain realities. If a country harbors people or entities that are enemies of the US then the US will take action. If for instance Pakistan, who takes millions of dollars from the U.S. is not willing or unable to take care of terrorists within it's borders then, a drone strike is cheap and effective.

Posted in: Do you consider the A-bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki to be war crimes? See in context

The Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was not only justified, it was legal and unassailable under the war crimes laws of that era. The Hague Regulations on Land Warfare of 1907 state that "the attack or bombardment, by whatever means, of towns, villages, dwellings, or buildings which are undefended is prohibited." Neither Nagasaki nor Hiroshima were undefended. Therefore, they were legitimate, legal targets. Also, the Hague Draft Rules of Aerial Bombardment, drafted in 1923, state that "air bombardment is legitimate only when is directed against a military objective." Both Hiroshima and Nagasaki were military targets due to their significant military presence and industrial production capabilities. The United States did NOT violate any international rules of engagement at the time and therefore the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki do NOT constitute a war crime. It was not a war crime WHEN it happened.
