Ponomarev is the chief interpreter for the Tokyo Games

And he doesn't know how to speak Japanese?!

Can somebody please explain again why we the taxpayers of Japan are paying for this circus?

Very little to do with the Olympics. Just like some other countries, a premature, post-corona mood is setting in.

Wrong.

The latest record-setting numbers actually have a LOT to do with the Olympics. If our dear leaders hadn't been so focused on holding the Olympics, they could instead have focused on prevention, vaccination, and reopening.

Let's see she may require testing to be cut back down to 6,000 or so or the same thing she has been doing for months, stick her head in the sand and claim every is under control.

Or check herself into a hospital so she can recuperate from "exhaustion."

The three athletes were not staying at the athletes' village, the organizers said.

Why do the organizers always need to be so secretive? If these athletes aren't staying in Bach's "bubble," where are they staying? The public has a right to know.

Big decrease. Happy to see.

Wrong.

Big increase. Weekly total now stands at 8,292, which is an increase of 1,208 over last week (and there's still one day to go).

Even if it's just one, it's one too many.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the highest number ever for Tokyo? I believe the second highest was 1337 on December 31 2020

Tokyo's record (thus far) is 2,520 on January 17 of this year.

More meaningless news. Firstly, these "PCR" tests are completely unreliable for population testing (as even the manufacturer points out), and secondly having been test positive for virus particles does not mean that they are sick or that will infect others, especially not if they take some common sense proportions.

In that case, why are we being told by Bach and Suga that these very same tests are what will ensure that infections will be detected and isolated?

920 is a bad number, but the bad numbers seem to be confined to Kanto. Ehime now 5 days in a row with no cases for example.

Whew! That's a relief1 Thank goodness the Olympics are being held in Ehime and not in the Kanto area.

That's just how numbers feed into the system after the weekend - there is always a spike on a Tuesday.

Except today is Wednesday. We already saw the Tuesday "spike" to which you refer.

Why is it so difficult for people to acknowledge that it's NEVER a normal thing when the infections go up, regardless of the day of the week they are reported?

Ha! The "sporting world."

In other words, a bunch of out-of-touch, privileged, selfish individuals who got to skip the front of the vaccination line and have no way (or desire) to relate to the everyday folks who are suffering through the economic and emotional hardships of this horrible pandemic.

I dont get it, the vaccine is hard to administer (according to the government who won't allow dentists, paramedics, nurses etc to administer it) needs to be stored very cold and all that, but now your boss can buy a box on amazon and store it in the fridge with peoples bento's?

The headquarters of many major corporations in Japan have on-site, well-staffed and fully equipped medical clinics. My former employer has an entire floor of its Otemachi headquarters that serves as the employee hospital. Properly storing and administering vaccines poses no challenge whatsoever to these operations.
