Well, Putin's bulldog Lavrov finally admitted they want to remove the Ukrainian government (despite having denied such notions before).

Humans are different - a friend of mine is working roads, means dealing with hot tarmac all year long until subzero temps. Drinking 5 or 6 litres of water was not enough to keep him hydrated in temps above 30°C. A few weeks ago he collapsed when daytime temps reached 35°C. He is still in hospital with kidney failure.

Another friend of mine works at a computer base - about 18°C all year long and he feels fine with that. Got out into 35°C and collapsed on his way home.

I do not think there is anything wrong with unions asking to protect workers.

It is necessary to provide Ukraine with the weapons needed to drive back Russia and provide them with a basis to be able to negotiate. Selenskyy was willing to negotiate until Russian war crimes in Bucha and other places came up. Now he has no choice but keep it up because surrendering Luhansk, Donbass and Crimea would be his undoing. And this would mean the last democratic leader might go - bring back the corrupt oligarchs Russia would like to see.

We all know Putin will not stop after a few bites off Ukraine. He has made wastelands of wheatfields, turned cities to rubble and wrecked industries. He does not conquer - he is bound to destroy.

I agree with englisc aspy in general but I'm still against school uniforms. They date back to a time when it was customary to tell by clothing which class you belonged to and even in Britain it didn't work. One of my pen pals flung her school uniform into the corner the moment she came back from school and put it on the next day right back from the spot she left it. Both her parents were working full time to keep food on the table so there was no one to care for it.

My other pen pal did the same but she had a nanny and her uniform was always spotless, ironed and upkempt. Even on an old b/w class group photo you could always tell the upper class kids apart.

Both girls envied me because we had no school uniforms in Germany - the only disadvantage showed in summer, when scantily clad girls hoped for better grades from male teachers.

But they appeared a minority. I would say the best option is, everyone clothes themselves comfortably, cleanly and decently, no display of expensive designers and if someone wants to wear a skirt or pants, it's fine.

The worst option would have been the idea that emerged in the late 70's at my school: the grammar school (Gymnasium) kids would be dressed in white, the intermediate school (Realschule) kids in blue and the secondary school (Hauptschule) kids in red.

The ensuing uproar buried the idea within weeks.

According to refugees from the Donbass region, 7 to 10% of the population in Donbass/Luhansk support Russia but not necessarily Putin. Their numbers are dwindling, as many Russian speaking Ukrainians feel disgusted by the Russian forces so they prefer to become fully Ukrainian now, teaching their kids Ukrainian language and culture - even though that's rather difficult while being pressured to use Russian money and language in public.

In the western and central parts of Ukraine you'll hardly find any Russia supporters at all.

And definitely no Putinistas.

Excuse me, I'm just a humble German not understanding why anybody aside from the military should be able to buy military grade weapons. Those weapons serve one purpose only: To kill humans.

I won't go out at lengths why a teenager should be able to buy any weapon at all, I will not moan about gun culture in the US or anything, I just want to know: Why does the NRA think assault rifles and guns for kids mean "freedom"?

I think he's doing a good job. I've watched him when he was a comedian and was not impressed - as a leader of a threatened country he is doing very well.

I think those burkinis look actually very pleasant, a lot nicer to look at than a hairy fat guy in budgie-smugglers as Cleo so aptly put it. Those ladies also avoid skin cancer which is another reason why some more covering while swimming is a good idea. While snorkelling I always wear a t-shirt and shorts because sun burn comes quicker than you expect.

I don't understand why to make it an issue at all. One poster at a German news site complained sweaty burkinis were "unhygienic" but I doubt the ladies wearing them would get sweaty lying in the sun to get a tan.

I used to be part of the German Friedensbewegung way back in the early 80s. I have learned painfully that you cannot appease a raging bull (or in this case, bear) by waving an olive twig and asking him to come to the negotiation table. You can either hide behind said table and wait until he comes crashing through or get the weapons necessary to blast that menace to peace away.

Frieden schaffen ohne Waffen (make peace without arms) only works as long as you're dealing with someone with a conscience, with morals, with values like human life is prescious.
