Judderman, are you flying just for the hostesses or to be moved from A to B?

Sharp can cry and cry about the strong yen, but many other companies are doing just fine, the Koreans are selling about half of all the tvs sold in Latin America.

So, besides that half of Latin America, what are the figures for the rest of the world?

High school girls, meloveulongtime was talking about, are not 11 years old.

Posted in: Japan frees 14 crew members of Chinese ship; captain still held See in context

I don't understand the complaints of the pro-China posters here. If you like it or not, at this very moment the Senkaku islands are controlled by JAPAN. Disputes or not, at THIS moment they are NOT controlled by China or Taiwan. The Chinese trawler ignored several warnings from the Japanese coast guard to leave Japanese waters (because the islands are controlled by Japan, remember) and "collided" (rammed?) with 2 Japanese coast guard vessels when it finally did. The absurd complaints and threats from China during the past few days about this incident shows that China still has third world manners.

By the way snowboard, Smith is spot on.

Americans blaming Europe for this are as the pot calling the kettle black.

I was on Lufthansa's A380 recently. What a great plane that is! Sooo quiet! So relaxed! And, as frontandcentre said, great that Narita has extra lines for re-entry permit holders now. I passed immigration in 5 minutes. Coming from an A380!!

"For progress, Japan needs to beat WC-quality opposition overseas a bit more often."

How would beating WC-quality teams outside Japan (not on home soil) benefit their progress? I mean, what's the difference between winning at home or away when it comes to progress?

"Yep, it sure does. Just have a look at the plethora of wanna-be surfers sitting in the water with NO waves. You can learn a lot about surfing in Japan from that image."

Always that silly surfers-whining. Whenever there's a typhoon, hotshot Disillusioned chimes in with "SURFING!!!!!"

I don't understand this "outside Japan" rubbish every time a Japanese team (not only football) wins on own soil. The JT public loves to harp on about the fact they believe any Japanese team can only win on their home soil.

They can. You probably missed a certain major football event this summer.

Posted in: Dolphin-hunting town begins annual pursuit See in context

Cleo, thanks for the explanation. That's exactly what I wanted to hear.

"Not so between dolphin and whale; even the experts need to rely on DNA testing."

But it seems some so-called "experts" here on JT know for sure dolphin meat is distributed across the country as whale meat or they just "SAW" it in the greater Osaka area WITHOUT DNA testing.

I'm totally against the useless brutal slaughter of these animals, but some posters here think they know everything better for the sake of being against Japan or pretending to be an oracle on this website.

Cleo:

"How?"

Well, dolphin meat isn't whale meat. Like pork isn't beef.

By the way, if dolphin meat would be labeled as whale meat....people at supermarkets could tell, right?

Yes, bicultural. I agree with you. Every time I visit my supermarket I check if they have whale meat. Maybe once a month I see 2 packages of whale meat among an abundance of other seafood. But hey, for posters like Disillusioned this a perfect topic to spit on Japan again.

"Then again I dont work for Qantas, maybe there is a demand for it."

If you don't work for Qantas and you might think there's a demand for this service then don't make snap judgements like "this makes very little sense".

Posted in: Tokyo beats Hawaii to take Little League World Series title See in context

"kreza23 laments the ridiculous, "If you are considering population and talent base, then the population of the US is higher than that of Japan" Sorry, the population base of the Tokyo metro area is twice that of any major US city- including NY. This is a huge advantage for Japan as they have a higher base from which to choose from. These are "All-Star" teams- selected from the best of the best in the area- the population density of such an area has a huge influence- not to mention coaches that go outside their region to "recruit" ball players, and this is very commeon in Japan. My neighbours 12 year old daughter was sent off to some prep school 5 hours away because she was a promising gymnast ! Imagine that 12 years old and its off to training school... I guarantee you the kids from Hawaii sleep in their own beds at night ! kingsaint: "I would have more respect for Japan's win if the guys on second base weren't stealing signs all game long. Tainted victory at best." I'm divided on the issue- granted it is considered poor sportsmenship- but I have to give props to a player that can receive such a sign and adjust to it. The bigger question is- who taught them this ??? It would be a good question for the coach as "fair play" and "don't cheat" are part of the Little League creed."

Branded, look at your essay above. An essay full of sour grapes!! Deal with it, man!!
